I hate driving.

I live in Miami, which is a sprawled out city with absolutely horrible public transport. The MetroRail is a joke. I heard they are building it to spread out west to the airport. Who the fuuuck takes a train to the airport?

And we have the worst drivers in the United States to top it off. I flick somebody off at least once per trip, and I pray to god that they step out that car and try to fight me. I'm not even violent. I feel bad for killing ants, man. Driving in Miami just does this to you.

easy. choose to not drive.

when i don't like something i don't do it.

You probly won't see this but do you really think that's a good motto to live by? I thought the whole part of being an adult was you sometimes have to do things you don't want to do

i find taking public transport to the airport to be very convenient. i can save money on parking. which adds up if you take a trip longer than a few days. and judging from the numerous other people i see with suitcase on public transport, i would say a good bit of people take it to the airport.

not really. the only person who is responsible for my happiness is me. i find one of the liberating things about being an adult is that i can choose not to do things i don't want to do.

I live in a massive urban sprawl so i need to drive. It would be nice if society was created in a way where everyone didn't need to own a car, but in my town thats not the case.

Driving can be fun though, i used to love driving my parents miata on winding mountain roads.

The train does go to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. One thing I found that was messed up about that train is that it goes from the Ft. Lauderdale airport directly to Miami. It does not even bother to stop in Ft. Lauderdale at any of the places one would need to go when visiting Ft. Lauderdale. That does not make sense. But it goes to Miami for whatever reason.

Absolutely. A train to the airport improves the livability of a city. I fly several times a year and take the train (a few dollars) to the airport every time. A cab would be a $40 ride which takes just as long. Taking a bus would be a hellride that requires multiple transfers and takes all day.

I don't like to drive, except to use the stereo because it's the best stereo I own LOL.
But I live in walking distance of work, grocery stores, pharmacies. Literally down the block. It's awesome.

I hate driving for two reasons:

1. Cops - I swear to fuck I get pulled over at least 4-5 times a year and I don't speed. 9 times out of 10, if a cop winds up behind you he's going to come up with some bullshit reason to pull you over.

2. Fear of accidents - No matter how safe you are behind the wheel, you can't count on the hundreds of other cars you encounter to be driving safely. I don't want to wind up a vegetable or missing a limb because some jackass beside me forgets how to use their mirror and neck before coming into my lane.

the only time i hate to drive is in the rain. i am terrified of inclement weather and the inability to see perfectly when it happens. i have a terrible fear of rainy roads. aside from that...i fucking love it. i will only own sticks, automatics are boring. driving is goddamn fun.

Same here. I've actually hydroplaned before on a busy highway in blinding rain, at night no less. It's a miracle that both myself and my lady friend escaped unharmed. I was uneasy about driving in pouring rain before and that incident certainly did not aid my cause.

Have I told you lately how sexy you are?

Sorry, wrong thread for me but Il have to be an antagonistic gobshite and give my 2c...;)

I fkn love it; recently it is up beyond sex and chocolate. It's cathartic for me. Especially speeding on the motorway, am a fairly good driver, shameless pride, but I am..(Toots horn) Dont care about stereotypes...It is a beautiful thing... Have been fantacizing about Formula 1 as a career ;)...

...wwwwhhhhyyyyy u know like....?

*now have a crush on DarthMom cause she is prolly the only person I know who likes driving and Erasure <3

driving a manual is great fun until you get stuck in an hour long traffic jam. then all you get is a crampy leg :(

Speaking of which, the hardest part of learning stick shift is getting into first gear. After that it's eazy peazy.

I'm in the opposite boat to most people in this thread: I actually *want* to drive, but have always been in a near-panic attack state the few times I have.

i am sort of the same way. i am 37 and have never held even a permit. if it was an emergency i am capable of driving.

my only problem is that i really no longer want to live in a city and that sooner or later driving may become an actual necessity.

Im partial to the idea, some days i don't like driving.. other days i can enjoy it. But the concept of driving for me has always symbolized unrestricted freedom.. especially off-road vehicles; and i value my freedom over anything else in life.

So for me, it's a huge convenience.. but it's merely that, nothing else.

Next year i hope to maybe spend a few months to a year traveling and relying on nothing but public transport to get between destinations, my opinion of driving may change after this. ;)

no, so do it immediately with a lot of love and devotion.

i grew up and learned to drive in atlanta, a big city with notorious traffic jams. until this day, it has never been a problem. stays in first gear, only diff is left foot in addition to right. though, the hubby had an evo with a race clutch for a short while, and i could see how a car like that would annoy someone who wasn't used to or familar with a clutch to begin with, but still would choose a rough ride such as that to an automatic.

I was nervous when I first started, but now I can't imagine not being able to drive. SOOO much easier to do shit and go places with a car. I think if I had to take public transportation nowadays I would end up severely beating someone. lol
