I figured out drugs. (Being present while high)

New here, but I've had countless drug experiences. Everything from MDMA to tripping, to weed, alcohol, opiates, and amphetamines.

I find that a lot of the same rules apply to being high as when you're sober. Drugs DO NOT make you happy. Your happiness is independent of everything. Drugs just make you feel a certain way and then people get addicted to that feeling. For example, alcohol opens you up and lowers you inhibitions so you keep wanting to feel like that when instead you can learn to be that way while sober. Drugs are what you make of them. They are simply a tool that can make you more open or close minded.

I notice that I have many ups and downs while high on anything. There are triggers and situations. Being high doesn't guarantee pleasure or euphoria. You have to learn to be present as you would be while sober. That means: not taking your thoughts too seriously, letting thoughts go, being the awareness of them, meditating through your thoughts and emotions. This is why drugs affect people so differently. If they already have problems, those problems tend to come up while high. Others can relax through the high better and go with the flow.

At first I thought that mindset only applies to tripping-it doesn't. Even the drugs that do provide straight euphoria like heroin, coke, and mdma, can be blocked if you have negative thoughts and emotions going on.

In the end, drugs only make you more sensitive in different ways. It's your choice if you want it to be a positive or negative experience.

I think this Theory is pretty much what experienced users have know throughout the years of using any drugs. If u smoke weed when you are sad and depressed or you're going to feel even worse once you get high, for most people. There is also no guaranteed of feelings of euphoria when you take prescription pills, some people get very agitated on them. I can go on but I Think what you stated is pretty common knowledge, good post though.

The reason it's so mind blowing for me is that with that knowledge, I can enjoy highs no matter what and learn more about true happiness itself. People think and I thought for a long time that drugs guarantee euphoria. They don't. Which means you're in control! I asked myself why am I feeling bad right while high.. I just did a bump. Then 5 minutes later of doing something else, I'm feeling the euphoria.

Your happiness is independent of everything.

What exactly do you mean by this statement?

Isn't happiness largely determined by an individual's environment, the conditions that they find themselves in?

Or even who a person is on a biological/neurological level? Depression is a vexing problem that I'm sure a lot of people wish they could change if they could.

Well all happiness comes down to is peace of mind. I'd have to say that environments and conditions don't *directly* dictate one's happiness, it's more so the fact that that particular environment or condition gives them less to think about. On the surface it seems as if oh if I change x condition, I'll feel happier, but happiness is always the same. There's no such thing as first car happiness, ice cream happiness, birthday happiness, although it seems like that.

Happiness isn't always the same. Same days I feel happy, while other days I do not...how is that consistent?

I agree. You could mentally create those feelings. To artifically do so, however, you would need to delude yourself into believing your situation is different. Having a positive outlook is good, but delusion sounds like dangerous territory

I am not trying to be negative but don't expect that to be the norm. It's sounds like you are a young happy person hopefully you stay that way. If the darkness creeps in things change, life isn't all happiness and perfection. Some have been through some serious shit.

I don't believe this. when I was seriously depressed opiates would turn me right around, maybe that's why I'm addicted to them.

My prescribed opiates helped the most with my depression, but now I tend to just get very agitated easily while on them. I was onece prescribed Tramadol and that made me motivated and very sociable. I know it was the SNRI .

I Think its its funny how this kid thinks he figured out drugs. I think everyone knows your state of mind when taken certain drugs is key to a good experience.
