I'm in a weirdo position here, but here goes:
I'm Rxed 3mg/day Xanax, plus recently 4 pills of hydrocodone/day (it used to be 4/day but only for a few days a month, not every day; now it's every day). I take the Xanaxes, but I take only a small portion of the opiates, because they make me sick. I take half a Norco/Vicodin in the mornings, and then half towards the evenings if I'm really hurting and heat/ice don't do the trick. I've learned to just take a fourth of a morphine sulfate to equal a 7.5 hydrocodone, and while it makes me loopier, the pain killing is good, and I don't get as sick as taking those huge powdery Vicodins.
The Xanax is an issue because I'm not supposed to count my pills ...some dumb shit like, only addicts do that, but obviously I've been on benzos for years, don't like running out, fully accept that I AM an addict, and I have no problem with that! But the doc doesn't want me to count: he wants me to take 3x/day Xanax, and he throws in a few extra (100 ct) so I can take an extra if I want. I know he sounds nice and all, but the problem is, I average 4mg/day Xanax some weeks of the Rx (depending on pain from period), but can drop off to 2mg/day the other weeks.
If I don't count, I'll run TF out! Hello, right?! But as long as I count my pills once a week, I know what I can and can't take so I don't run out. It takes minutes to count and put the number in a spreadsheet I designed (days left, pills left, divide) so I don't have to early refill or beg for more. Plus, I don't always need 3 or 4 a day. I've explained this to doc, but he says I'm "abusing" Xanax if I don't take 3x/day period.
Can he find out I take 4mg/day sometimes, and 2mg/day other times, with a blood test? I don't think so, and even agreed to take ANOTHER drug test if he required one (heh, I called his bluff), but now I'm a little nervous. But wouldn't the blood test AVERAGE what is currently in my system, so it's 3mg/day? Or can doc really tell if I'm not taking the Xanax exactly regularly (3mg/day)?
(The opiates is another thread entirely, but I think I've got that sorted. I take far less than I'm supposed to, but I doubt there's a doctor in the world who'd think that was "bad".)
