I don't know if this is stupid but.. (effervescent cocodamol)

My mate got prescribed a load of cocodomol tablets for his shoulder, and he was left with loads. He said I could have them if I wanted.

They're Cocodomol 8mg/500mg efferservescent.


I think this means you mix them with water..?


Is it even possible to get a high off these? I know cocodomol has codeine in it but...

yes, it is possible to get high off codeine, especially if your tolerance is low. no clue on earth what efferservescent is...would a CWE even work on this? i have no clue lool.
 
I'm not sure; I read the CWE thread, and then checked them, googled effervescent, and then was confused..
They are supposed to be dissolved. Eh. Thought I'd ask!
 
When you add water to effervescent cocodamol you end up with a soluble paracetamol/APAP salt in solution as well as the codeine. This means a cold water extraction (CWE) won't work - it relies in insoluble paracetamol being filtered out. As recreational doses of codeine start at 100mgs for most people (maybe more, higher if you have a bigger tolerance obviously) you would be consuming a dangerous amount of paracetamol to get a high. Daily max is 4g (recently changed to 3g in the US) and you shouldn't consume more than 2g in one go.. usually a CWE takes care of the paracetamol but not in this case.

Yeah haha I looked into it a while back when I had some.. very unfortunate. Better not to get high than to get liver failure though..

I think they also contain quite a big sodium load too which is also not good for you in excess. The paracetamol/APAP is the biggest problem however.

Yes, better :) as long as it is normal tablets and not effervescent ones!

Cool; How much should I be looking at starting with? The megathread seems to hint at 60mg, but you said 100mg is an average recreational amount.

And the APAP is paracetamol correct? They have solubility temperatures for APAP, Ibuprofen etc but no paracetamol!

Hmmm. Both codeine and dihydrocodeine can be pretty variable in their effects. I usually say 100mg codeine for an initial dose (200mg is often what people actually need but a few people are super-sensitive..) - 200mg codeine is equivalent to around 30mg oral morphine. Dihydrocodeine is quoted as being twice as strong in the opioid conversion thread but in some people report it to be more like 1.5 times as strong, and this fits with my own experience. 100mg codeine is therefore around 50-66mg DHC, 200mg codeine is around 100-130mg DHC.

If you are completely opioid naive you want to start low for your first time, so I would not go over 100mgs.

So essentially, I should CWE 5-6 tablets, as they're 10mg, so that'll be 50-60mg, which should be the equivalent of 100mg regular codeine?

Want to make sure...

DHC is 1.5-2 times as strong as codeine

So 100mg codeine = 66mg DHC (if it is 1.5 times as strong) or 50mgs (if it is twice as strong). I'd go with 6 tablets as you do lose a bit in a CWE, especially when you are starting off - practice makes perfect, but expect to lose around 10%.

100mgs codeine/50-60mgs DHC may well not be enough but you want to start low for your first time in case you are sensitive to opioids. Don't mix it with any other CNS depressants (benzos, alcohol etc) as this can be really dangerous and put you at risk of overdosing.

We aim to please :D

I am a big fan of DHC and I have quite a high tolerance but I know other people who don't get much from it at all - it does vary, but give it a try and I hope it works for you :)
