Can someone shed some light on this? Particularly calling out benzo lovers/addicts.

I have tried alot of different drugs and by far benzos have the least effect on me. I have taken some pretty heroic doses and only felt slightly phased by it at all. Ive tried everything from 150mg of temazepam to 10mg of xanax, 8mg of klonipin, havent tried valium but ive heard its worse than xanax. I get sleepy and calm, which isnt what I would call fun at all.

Benzo's becoming a DOC amazes me.

the other day i thought id try using 20mg valium for recreational use to see if its any good, and found it to be fucking awful. how people can say this stuff is euphoric i have no idea. i do suffer from anxiety although its not that bad, im quite a big drinker on the weekends so i thought id replace it with valium to ease off my liver a bit. all valium did was mong me out to the state i felt like a semi-drunk unemotional monged out robot. it was more mind numbing that alcohol. i swayed around a bit and had slurred speech. it made me slow and dopey. and it made me hungry. then i slept. what a load of shit.

I find them incredibly dull personally.

Luck of the draw really, some are just effected (affected?) differently than others.

Same here. But that's probably due to my cross tolerance of benzos with alcohol (which act on the brain almost identically).

All the doses you listed apply to me as well. What really sucks is that I have a very real anxiety disorder, and benzos are now almost completely ineffective in managing it.

But as for fun? Even if I weren't cross tolerant, I think I could name at least 20 substances I'd do before choosing to indulge in the benzodiazepines. The rule is, the shorter the half-life, the more pleasurable the onset, but even that pleasure (as that of Halcion or Xanax, for example) is mediocre at best.

But hey, everybody's different, right?

I agree that on their own, very few people (i believe) use benzos as their DOC. that said, if you suffer from anxiety or are coming down from other drugs like stimulants or X, the relief the provide is immense. i take valium for anxiety daily and it isnt "fun", but the relief from anxiety is so nice that its an awesome feeling to be able to function without being crippled with panic etc. to really get why benzos are loved by many, keep a xanax on hand and if you ever have an anxiety/panic attack or overwhelming stress, take the pill and you'll see why so many people rave over them. just my 2 cents. and YMMV of course....and youre taking massive doses for someone with no tolerance (i assume), so be careful because benzos at those dosages mixed with something may be very dangerous.

btw, what do you mean by hearing that valium was "worse than xanax"? like weaker? more addictive? stronger? just interested because valium is actually one of the nicer ones due to it pharmacokinetics.

Ive heard that valium is weaker in strength than xanax. I can totally see where the anxiety relief part comes in since thats the main point of a benzo, its just seeing xanax as a recreational drug doesnt appeal to me. I mean when I had taken that much xanax a bomb could have blown up and I wouldnt have flinched, but I had no buzz or any type of euphoria. I also generally despise alchohal so my mind maybe was made up about benzos before I even tried them?

sounds like youre trying to see if you can get euphoric, and xanax is probably the alleged most euphoric benzo. that said, they dont hold a light to opiates or stimulants in that department and check out youtube videos of kids on xanax. they just act really fucked up. for me, oxy is euphoria, valium is a treatment. if i take more than prescribed, i get tired...not worth it at all. also alcoholics or lovers of alcohol seem to be prone to benzo use than people who dont like alcohol. seeing as you despise it, i think that benzos are not worth the time or money for you. think of it as a good thing...w/d from benzos is horrific and lasts a very long time. you'll never have to deal with it %)

when i had a small tolerance and didn't take them daily, benzos used to make me feel very content and relaxed. i was also probably an alcoholic and definitely had anxiety issues and panic attacks. edit: i guess i should add that i perceived this anxiety relief, relaxation, and contentedness as very euphoric at the time.

Like I said, its not a drug too get "high" on, just to incredibly relieve anxiety. Taking them to pass out is just stupid. I don't find blacking out fun. But complete relief of such awful anxiety is bliss. So benzodiazepines are good for the following reasons.

1. Relief of anxiety, especially persistent daily anxiety and panic attacks.
2. To be combined with other drugs (i.e. heroin, cocaine)
3. Comedowns (i.e. cocaine, amphetamines)
4. Insomnia

It's not a matter of "weaker vs. stronger". Benzos have an equivalence in their potency from one to the next (e.g. 2mg of lorazepam is effectively as potent as 20mg of diazepam). The differences between them are in their durations of action, their half-lives. A shorter acting benzo like Xanax has a more rapid onset and a more effective ability at managing panic attacks than the incredibly long-lasting Valium. However, while Xanax might be the benzo of choice for a sufferer of sudden panic attacks, Valium (or Librium) with their long half-lives are the appropriate medications for the management of, say, alcohol withdrawal.

Generally, I find that the shorter the half-life, the more rapid the onset. It might be for this reason that users of Xanax feel more of a "rush" than they would if they were to take a benzo like Valium or Librium. With valium, you can treat a withdrawing alcoholic with 10-20mg every 8 hours or so. Also, as opposed to most other benzos, valium has certain additional therapeutic qualities such as being a skeletal muscle relaxant. Klonopin can manage petit mal seizures. If you tried to manage an alcoholic's withdrawal symptoms with Xanax, you'd have to keep popping him pills like candy all day long. But for a panic attack, it's rapid-acting Xanax to the rescue.

Shit. All this used to apply to me. But at 23 I became a severe heroin addict and when I put that down after a few years I replaced it with heavy drinking (which I still have a problem with). Last time I went to detox from a serious drinking spree, the Valium hardly phased me.

Valium may have a long half-life but it doesn't have a long duration. For me, maybe 4 hours, its one of the shorter acting benzodiazepines from my experience. The "side effects" (drowsiness) are persistent for another few hours. I took Valium for taper and it worked great because of its long half-life but it certainly doesn't last long.

It amazes me also, I can never understand why people find benzos fun.

A lot of people use drugs to escape from the every day hassles and troubles of life... More and more people use benzo and opiates now days thats for sure...

Not my favorite by any means but they have their place. I had court this morning, I was worried (for no reason, turns out) and 2 mgs xanax last night had me sleeping like a baby, and mg this morning had me nice and relaxed for court. They're also great on stim comedowns, and they more than pay for themselves in all the shit I shoplift when I do them.

You guys obviously havent had come downs from stimulants before.

They ull realize how godlike benzos are.

i think 20 mg valium is like 1 or 2mg of xanax....valium is weak.......and to me i think the whole benzo hype only works when mixing with other CNS depressants
