Harm Reduction I am very dehydrated possible to buy saline at pharmacy in USA?

I can start an IV and I have like 20 bucks. I don't want to have to sit in ER all day im tired and have the flu or something. Can I get what I need at a paharmacy? Im guess Sterile IV line sterile injectable saline and what kind of syringe needle thingy. I mean I know its not called a syringe. Anyway help out a sick broke guy huh? Overall goal is rehydration but I throw up everything I fucking eat and drink. What about a fucking hydration enema? im fucking grasping here and dying I think......lol wash your hands kids.

I don't know about the US-pharmacies but when I was in opiate withdrawal and threw everything up I made tea and only took very very small sips continuosly.
Maybe this method helps you to keep some fluids in. Get well soon!
 
Yeah ive been trying with Gatorade its like once I hit a certain point I puke again. just dry heaves and Gatorade. I mean I doubt I will die or anything hopefully but I am very dehydrated. I know this is a crazy ass thread but shit.

I know you can get nasal spray products that are saline based in US pharmacies. These are actually a very commonly used treating sinus problems. I want to say you can get saline solutions to swallow as well but I'm just not confident enough to tell you yes for sure. Hope this is of some help to you and I hope you feel better ASAP
 
I just remembered that mornings after I would drink really heavily the night before, the flavor of Vitamin Water called Revive was pretty decent at helping dehydration. If you can stand Coconut Water ( I suggest the pineapple flavored Vita Coco) it has a ton of potassium in it which is what is low in your system a lot of the times you get dehydrated. Again, I hope you find, or have already found, some relief.

You can get rehydration effervescent products OTC in USA.
The key is to only take tiny sips at a time (500ml water with electrolytes should take you at least 4 hours to finish).
Think of it as kinda like the sublingual ROA and just take small sips over as many hours as possible.

The price of these products are dirt cheap.
So look for one that has "Potassium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Chloride" as the active ingredients.
Dose as per the top paragraph and hopefully you will rehydrate yourself in a painless and economic way.

You actually could do a hydration enema. 900mg sodium per 1l water is the ratio of saline.

I dont think its as efficient as drinking though.

They do not sell the equipment needed OTC. But you could do an enema like the above poster mentioned. I would try to get some Pedialyte at the pharmacy or get to the ER and tell them you are in severe WDs so bad you can not keep liquid down. One of the first things they should do is set up an IV and get some IV fluids in you. They might even put some IV opioids in the line depending on what kind of a mood they are in or what kind of hospital they are LoL.
 
CJ...So sorry! I'm just seeing this, because I've had my own ER visit this weekend! As you said, if you have insurance, go to ER for an IV push bag of fluids/electrolytes. I know. I hate the hospital/arrogant doctors routine too...but you've gotta, I think.

NOTHING "crazy ass" about this, friend. If you're projectile vomiting, pedialyte etc. won't stay down. They make popsicles, too. The dehydration will cause organ shut down if left untreated. Candied Ginger will ease nausea, if you don't have Zofran. Ask for the Zofran at the ER (non-nausea).

I can't say for sure because I don't know what the medical system is like where you live, but this would absolutely never happen in any hospital I've ever seen. It isn't a good thing either, even if they did mitigate withdrawal with some opioids. If they give you a small amount and discharge you hours later, it will only delay the same symptoms. Even if they gave you a take-home Rx (even less likely when a patients walks in to an ER in severe withdrawal), it still only delays the inevitable.
 
Well I lived. I don't want to go into boring detail but I got rushed back from triage to the main trauma room thingy. Machines put in place 2 IVS started. Ativan given in 3 separate doses over an hour. I got an EKG no heart attack. My heart rate and pulse was through the roof from what the nurses told me. This was my first time in a real medical emergency and it was intense. One nurse did IVs the other kind of kept me calm and did other stuff I guess. I guess they just wanted to make sure I didn't seize or have heart attack before Ativan did its thing? Long story short they did tests took history ruled out pathogens and decided the Zoloft was the likely cause and serotonin syndrome the diagnosis I guess? But its going to be a mess to get figured out. I had been manic for a couple days before and my best guess is it built up in my brain and then boom? I really don't know much about it in fact my only knowledge of it pertains to MDxx drugs. So yeah I was up there for a good long while. But I am feeling better I guess but still manic feeling.

Anyway I will post more after followups are done with specialists and stuff. Thanks to everyone for chiming in my crazy question almost became something more.
 
Crimson: I am so relieved that you got medical care that sounds appropriate to your situation. Please know that my prayers for your health are out there.
 
I wish they did. I've visited the ER for dehydration a few times.

Glad they got you taken care of, it's shitty feeling like that. I hope it doesn't happen again, that kind of thing started a buncha shit with me.

He was looking to rehydrate himself intravenously though. None of the saline products availbe OTC recommend doing this (they may work, still wouldnt try it).

Crimsonjunk, glad you got treatment and hope you are feeling better. I am interested to hear what happened and if serotonin syndrome really is the diagnosis. Keep us posted when you feel up to it and get well.

Kitty, I have a question for you as long as you're here.. with my stomach I've ended up in the ER a few times just bc of dehydration, when I could have been helped at home by a nurse with an IV. Is there any way I can pay for this service?
 
Actually, Felonious there is a push right now for home infusion as opposed to hospital based care. We are transitioning here in the US to a much more pay for performance model as well as never before thought of ways to reduce costs. The big chain pharmacies (mostly Walgreens and CVS) already have pharmacists and nurses and a complete business model in place. And it is growing rapidly. They mainly have been focused on things like chemotherapy and IV biologics, but now are even working with hospitals and payors to get patients discharged early but still require IV antiobiotics. I am not so sure they do things like rehydration in home but it isnt out of the question. Give me a few minutes and I will find out exactly the scope of what they do.
 
For anyone who's still curious about this, IV infusion equipment and solutions can be found for sale online. Sometimes they will want a prescription but some sources will not (I think legally speaking they all should ...) NS/D5NS is not a bad thing to have around just in case. Also, from experience, a liter of IV hydration and 10mg Valium does wonders for a hangover.
