Hi, I'm new to this, so bear with me!

Here is something I wrote recently:

I am the poet,
she says,
and I am morning,
with my strong hands
____and many belongings.

I am the fire and water,
the steam and your daughter,
her fire and water ____and steam.

And I am the curfew
that limits how late
our desires,
young yet old, ____may loiter
____to animate matter.

And I am this moment,
and this face of yours
which lands over me now
with its incomplete ____eyes.

I am the poet, she says,
and I can add to your eyes
with gifts, warding signs,
____and lies.

I am the poet:
take what you need
____of me.

Great first post! There are some really interesting, suggestive lines and phrasings here.

I think it works as it is... but perhaps you could expand it? You could go beyond the present tense, and talk about "When this happened, I was the poet then, and when this happens in the future, I'll be the poet then too." I don't know, just a suggestion of something you could play around with. :)
