I am summoned!

Got my court summons this evening, to appear on the 24th. I'm being charged with driving under the influence of a controlled drug, possession of a pipe for the consumption of methamphetamine, possession of a Class A controlled drug (methamphetamine), and dangerous driving (which is bullshit cos I had a fucking seizure from benzo withdrawal - I wasn't deliberately driving dangerously. I've just gotta find some evidence to prove that!). Since I'm unemployed I can get a free lawyer, which I'll probably do tomorrow as I've only got a couple of weeks to get my shit together. Or who knows, maybe I'll get hit by a bus tomorrow which will save me all this frustration...

 

I hope everything works out positively for you. I dunno, try not to dwell too much on what might happen (I tend to go nuts when I think like that)

^ Knowing the NZ justice system, all the free lawyers will be incompetent dickheads. But I can't afford a proper lawyer, and an incompetent dickhead is better than nothing.

 

I wish you the best P. But can I ask, why were you driving around dirty?

 

^ I wasn't driving while high - the drug was just still in my blood. All drugs have a half-life that usually exceed the time that the actual effects are present.

 

Sweet P - you are right. Duration of effects is not the same as half life.

You can smoke weed, 5-8 hours later be 100% sober. Come 2 and a half weeks later, it'll still be detectable in your urine.

Had my day in court yesterday. My lawyer entered no plea for all charges and asked the judge to postpone the hearing for a few weeks, so I can get my defence sorted. The cops had been fucking around and didn't give my lawyer a copy of my case notes until the day before I was due in court, and my drug counsellor hasn't yet had a chance to write a letter explaining that I'm in treatment for my addiction. Hopefully in 3 weeks my defence should be ready, and I'll finally hear my fate!

Sorry what I ment by "driving dirty" was that they found a pipe & dope in your car. Did you used to get high while drving around?

 

^ No, I definitely wasn't high while driving. I'd spent the weekend at my girlfriend's (now ex-girlfriend's) place. We smoked a bit of meth during the weekend, and I was driving home back on Monday with my gear in the glove compartment... a stupid place to put it, in hindsight, but I've been using for years had never had a single criminal conviction, so I guess I was getting sloppy.
