Hey everyone, I'm Kevin. I'll keep this short and sweet. I live in long beach, ca and I'm the perfect example of a functional addict. Good career, mortgage, car, two beautiful kids and a fairly strong opiate addiction! Yea me!

Welcome to bluelight. Glad you found the forums, and hope you find it both interesting and helpful, some good places to start might be Basic Drug Discussion, Drug Culture, & Other Drugs.

If you have any questions about the forum rules, or how the software functions, feel free to use the PM me link in my signature below.

Im an opiate addict. 29yrs old. Wife, Mother of 3 kids. House, career etc. Its scary how acceptable it is to be a prescription painkiller addict in the U.K. I decided a week ago to come off Tramadol. I am now regretting the decision. If your fully functioning and it has no negative effects, i suggest staying on the opiates!

I wouldn't suggest staying on any drugs. If there is a way to avoid pain without having to use synthetic means, then that would be the best option. But if the addiction is caused due to recreational use, then I would definitely recommend being extremely careful in maintaining that balance if there is no desire to quit using, because it's a slippery slope.
Not saying it isn't possible to keep up a habit in a functional life, but negative effects will happen sooner or later, regardless if you notice them at first or not...
I just hope for the best of you, because opiate addiction isn't a walk in the park.........

unless that park was full of opium poppies ;)

Ya, I don't think I'd choose to stay an addict. It's funny how I just said that. Choose. I mean I do choose this life. But then again I don't. It's a fucked up thing. My addiction started with a legit injury. It's still being supported by a doctor but if I'm 100% real with myself I don't need these drugs. I say I do but it's a lie. Do I have aches and pains yes. Who doesn't? I'm physically strong enough to bear though them my addiction isn't

Hiya Kevin,
Welcome to Bluelight. Bronson has given you some links to some good sub-forums on Bluelight, where you will be able to talk with like-minded people and receive help and support. We're a good community of kind, empathic and understanding people here.

I'd advise you to look at the stickies at the top of this sub-forum, as there is some good information including the Greenlighter's Guide and The Adoption Programme, a programme where Bluelighters befriend Greenlighters in order to help them settle down at Bluelight. It can help people find things less daunting and more welcoming to have a "friend" willing to help, talk etc.

All the best,
Evey
