Stimulants I’m burning it with my mini torch. Any tips?

I’ve smoked for the longest using bic lighters, but I recently bought myself a mini torch trying to be official and what not. But I can’t seem to hit it right and I’m burning my shit. What am I doing wrong? Is it my pipe I have one of the cheap 3 dollar pipe that’s are small and thin. What’s a good technique

Hold it at a distance and as soon as it starts smoking up take the heat off and swirl it, give it a go. I'm not a pro but thats something i would do
