These 2 things have been the worst for me in methadone w/d...I havent taken any methadone in about 7 days, but have been using H about every other day, in an attempt to ease thru the methadone w/ds, at least during the worst parts of it, which imo, is about day 3 to about day 12.

I havent had much sleep, and when I do, its only for an hour or 2 and I have a drug dream every single time i fall asleep...last one I had was the pharmacy accidentally gave me 3 bottles of methadone, in the dream, i quickly gobbled down 4 tabs, when I woke up, for the first few seconds, I was wondering why I was still feeling like shit, then the w/ds came rushing back in...in short, that was VERY bad, had to get out of bed and walk around, smoke cigs for an hour or so to calm down.

The hypersensitivity that has also been bad is my sense of smell, seems like wherever I go, Im constantly smelling this nasty metallic, kind of sweet furnace type smell, hard to describe, but it makes me dry heave sometimes its so bad!

Im just wondering if anyone knows how long this hypersensitivity and drug dreams will go on for? I hope after about 14 days,I will start feeling somewhat better. Today was a very tough day, I do have H tonight and should last me about 4 days, but I cant go on using all the money I have on H all the time.

Thanks

i have using dreams alll the time. i stopped used a little more then 2 weeks ago but used 1 time a week ago and nive dreamt of gettin high almost everytime. and my ex is in alotta of them. that smell your experiacning is your body odor

Were you taking methadone at a clinic? Just curious as to why you're not tapering off. Unfortunately methadone withdrawal can last for weeks... It's one of the worst withdrawals for sure. Tbh, you're going to be much better off tapering your methadone or switching to a shorter acting opioid then quitting.

If you weren't getting methadone at a clinic I would look up a buprenorphine doctor and do a 10 day taper. By using heroin every other day you're just prolonging the withdrawal... And it's just not a good drug to try and taper with. It is an opioid with a shorter duration of action, but I'm assuming it's your DOC.

If you can't taper with methadone or buprenorphine, taper with a another opioid as I mentioned above. But don't just take it every other day, that will just prolong withdrawal. Decide the duration of the taper, just remember that you want to be off methadone long enough so your detox will be short... minimum 7 day taper, preferably more. Then take a pen and paper and make a schedule for each day, beginning with the first day and your starting dose and ending at the last day at zero.

Google the Thomas Recipe, it can be used together with a taper or by itself if you're unable to taper for any reason. I still get to the occasional crazy dream and I've had lucid dreams and sleep paralysis but I'm also on Seroquel and Remeron for sleep/anxiety. When you first get off opiates your system just goes into complete rebound. Post in Sober Living if you need more support, best of luck! :)

What you are describing is all part of opioid withdrawls. You probably have no energy yet can't sit still either right?Unfotunately these symptoms can last for months.I was an iv heroin user for over 20 years and even after the living hell part of the withdrawls are over (about 2 weeks for me) I continued to have symptoms for months that included depression, sleeplesness, lethargy, felling like I was walking around with cinder blocks tied to my feet, back ache and a general feeling of malaise.Even with a little over 3 years off H I still have the drug dreams (somehow in my dreams I'm never able to actually do the drugs,I'll have them but can't find my rigs, can't hit etc....).It sucks but comes with the territory. If you are unable for whatever reason to obtain a few Suboxone/Subutex and slow taper with those,You may find it useful to get a supply of pain pills.Something like Norco,Vicodin,or Percocet and taper with those. If you are used to heroin and methadone you won't really feel anything from them but taking a few and gradually reducing your dose will help keep the worst of the withdrawls somewhat bearable.Just take a little less every day or 2 untill you are opiate free.Even though people will be chomping at the bit to bitch about this next piece of advice,a moderate dose of benzos and a few liquor drinks when you are safe at home and not apt to get yourself in trouble can work wonders during your withdrawl phase. The muscle relaxer carisoprodol(Soma) can also help immensely. They help you calm down and sleep but they also make you uncoordinated so,again, take them at home and don't do anything requiring coordination or public interaction while on them. Also,I would be extermely careful about mixing these with alcohol and/or benzos,or even all but the lowest dose of pain pills with these.Even weak (for an opiate tolreant person) pain pills like Norco or Percocet.I've used this method with success numerous times.Hope this helps.I feel for you.Opiate withdrawl sucks and it's a hard road but later on you'll thank yourself you got off the shit.

I was forced to come off methadone pretty quickly as my pain mgt doctor found morphine (from my heroin use) in a random drug test, and they discharged me, If I had known this was coming, I would have tapered off, but I was down to about 10 pills when I found out...so I got scared, but I knew I still had my H connection, more expensive, but its made me able to function at work and continue to make money.

I sent an email to the pain mgt doctor, basically begging him to take me back, telling him I would be willing to do anything, but even if he does, I doubt he will give me the methadone again, Ive also tried looking around for street methadone, but none available as of yet, and when it is, its usually not much or not a steady thing, so Ive pretty much accepted I am not going to get anymore methadone...but probably for the best...this shit has been running my life for years now.

^ hmm... So I guess you couldn't switch to another doc right?

If you have legitimate pain and plan on being on just methadone long-term you can go to a methadone clinic and they will maintain you on the dose you've been prescribed. Just bring your bottle and/or paperwork from your pharmacy. Just keep in mind you'll have to dose daily at first but if stay away from your dope dealer and test clean you'll get take homes. Methadone clinics can be a little inconvenient initially but on the plus side if you test dirty they may take away your take home doses but they won't kick you out.

Now, if you're looking to feel more normal and have a little more flexibility you can schedule an appointment with a doctor or clinic that can prescribe buprenorphine (brand names Subutex, Suboxone). You'll get a prescription like you have now and only have to see a doctor once a month. It's a partial agonist opioid unlike heroin and methadone so there will be less side effects (sugar cravings, weight gain, sedation, low testosterone) but it's also done well in some studies conducted on pain management on individuals coming off pain medication. And it's a great transition drug for people seeking sobriety in the future.

Yea, once you get booted from a pain mgt doctor around here, you are pretty much blacklisted evrywhere else, Ive heard the methadone clinic would not take people coming from pain mgt (that were on methdone), but my situation is pretty unique, as I was abusing my regular methadone script and supplementing with heroin from the street...I guess it doesnt hurt to try, but I doubt they will take me My state (KY) has really gotten tough with this sort of thing lately.

Their new laws and regulations have squashed the local street pill trade, and I know thats what they wanted, but I dont think they expected everyone to switch to H once they couldnt get pills anymore!

You seem like a pretty strong person (believe it or not) and I can't even imagine methadone w/d, I only used it for about 10 days in a pretty low dose.
The drug dream thing is totally common in addicts. I have those frequently. The part about this that I find sad and ironic is you're using heroine to sooth the w/d from methadone. That sucks and I hope you end up alright .

Yeah methadone clinics are going to be focused on treating addiction, not pain. I would go in and emphasise your addiction, not your need for pain medication. They'll drug test you and if you're positive for heroin there's no reason they shouldn't take you. You can do detox rather than maintenance if you want, I just think cold turkey detox off methadone is dangerous and detrimental to your overall well being.

Not getting take homes at first may be difficult as I know methadone is dosed more often than once daily for pain but stay away from the dope and you'll get them. In the meantime just try and stay comfortable... are there any non-narcotic medications that help you?

Yes, Im going to stress my dope addiction when I go in, but I will have to talk about my pain mgt experience, as I imagine they run all this info and find out everything they can before dosing a person, but Im going to try...Im just going to be honest, and tell them, Ive been abusing my methadone script for many year and supplemented with H, and eventually became addicted to the H as well.

Ive tried the Lope a few times, it did help a little, but really it just made me sweaty, overly anxious, dry mouth, still felt the w/ds pretty hard tho, but I dont think I took enough of them at once, I took about 8 at first, then kept taking 3-4 more until i 'felt' something. thats about the only OTC med Ive tired, besides like advil PM, allergy meds, etc. didnt really help much.

Thanks for all the advice and help!

^ cool, let me know how it goes for you.

Yeah I never even bother with lopermide. I feel like the amount it would take to make me feel the slightest bit better would be terrible for me. All the extra ingredients and shit. Even in your case I doubt it would do much to help methadone withdrawal. Subs and benzos are much more helpful for detox.

Some people swear by lope though. I'm just not one of them.

ETA: by medications I didn't mean OTC. I meant prescription medication (but non-narcotic) to help with pain since you would be dosing only once daily at a methadone clinic initially which sometimes isn't enough for pain. Examples would include Lyrica and muscle relaxers like Flexeril and Soma.
