Is there any recreational value, I was prescribed them for anxiety...

Not really, not much more than something like Benadryl tbh. They are pretty good, as far as non-benzos go, for their intended purpose and as a sleeper though.

Im my experience no. I don’t even like them for sleep or day time anxiety. They make me feel really weird. I took them once or twice then totally stopped. My scripts are much better these days

It does potentiate opiates rather nicely though (and of course warrants taking care with one's dose in that situation.)

Hydroxyzine works about as well as diphenhydramine for anxiety (in other words, decently well). It's a lot like DPH actually. makes you feel a bit sedated, but not in a pleasant (or unpleasant, for me) way. Pretty decent for sleeping, too. And not addictive which is the biggest plus, you can use it to help sleep regularly without getting dependent on it.

But no, there is no recreational value.

I understand having anxiety. I’ve found a certain type of activity helps me out with it. It may seem kind of weird, but it really does work. Here’s what I mean....

It's effective but non recreational. Contrary to popular belief it doesn't increase the danger of OD as antihistamine drowsiness works via different channels (doesn't surpress breathing). Look into this more tho just in case I'm a moron.
