Hydroxyzine vs a benzo

I saw my doctor for anxiety attacks in hopes of getting clonazeapam, instead he gave me hydroxyzine. How do the two compare? Is hydroxyzine recreational at all? I know it can potienate opiates but that's all I've heard.

Hydroxyzine isn't recreational, but if it works for your anxiety, you'll be doing yourself a huge favor by sticking with it over benzos

Will it bring heart rate down like a benzo? If not then it's gunna be useless.

If you want an anxiolytic to lower your heart rate, you should ask your doc about propranolol

If you truly are having anxiety attacks, talk to your doctor again. He may have good reason to prescribe you hydroxyzine. I have to close this as we cannot advise you if a drug is recreational or not. Please read our forum guidelines:
