8 mgs IV will take my pain away for approximently 4 hrs. Would this be considered an acceptable dose? I am getting nothing from Hydrocodone in the way of relief , on top of that my liver enzymes mainly ast levels are of the chart. The good doctor continues to give me Acetominophen, I don't get it . I took a point blank blast from a 12 gauge shotgun, it was loaded with a number4 magnum shell. It took half a lung and let somewhere around 27 peices of BB sized shot in me. Some days are better than other but for the most part I suffer, in part because of what has happened here in Florida with the DEA and the fact that they essentially have turned the provided into the " policeman" in that they have the ability to impose devastating fines to the provider so they are scared to death. God I am glad I am a Canadian , my doctor in Canada where they are not "anal" about drugs would prescribe me Diludid oral solution 1 mg per ml. 2 letiers a month could be filled. I never really used that much but I would keep the brown glass bottle in fridge and it was the only time in the 30 years I had real pain relief without being in the ozone. I don't even think they sell this in the United States ..... Florida on top of that.... Then would be scared to ask for it in fear I would end up with nothing other than the" addict" label....

Welcome to BL!!

That's a decent dose at my worst I needed 32 mgs just to take away my sniffles.
Over time though like everyone else your tolerance increases and you will be like me taking 100+mgs a day so be careful use only want you need and try not to take it everyday.

Don't really understand what you mean by an "acceptable" dose, but 8mg of Hydromorph is definitely not a dose that an opiod-naive person should be taking, Hydromorph is very powerful via intravenous injection. Oh and from experience, I feel like hydrocodone and hydromorphone cause tolerance to develop pretty quickly...

What do you mean "acceptable"? If that's where your tolerance is.. then that's where it is..

I used to do 32+mg shots of hydromorphone, because that was where my tolerance was.. so that was acceptable for me personally.. but wouldn't have been for somebody with a lesser tolerance, know what I mean?

So it's all relative.

You would have to do some serious CWE on hydrocodone to get the relief you are getting with 8ng IV dilaudid.

Can you recommend to your doctor to switch you over to morphine orally?

As Scags mentioned, if 8mgs is taking your pain away & doing the job right, why wouldn't it be acceptable? Don't be scared to tell your doctor the truth........if you're in pain, tell him/her.
