Background: I've been a frequent opiate user for the last 2 years, both recreational and to manage my ongoing back pain, and have a moderate tolerance (I usually take 80mg - 100mg of oxycodone, as an example). In that time I've primarily used codeine, oxycontin and fentanyl, but I've sampled basically every opiate available in my country in my quest for both pain relief and good feelings
On top of that I've been involved in the rave scene since I was 17, so I've used MDMA/amphetamines quite extensively and experimented with assorted hullucinogens.
Hydromorphone is a drug I've only encountered once before, it doesn't have a long history of use in Australia, having only become available in the last few years in the form of Jurnista, a high dose extended release pill, and fetches a hefty price on the market. My previous experience with it took place about a month ago, dosing a total of 64mg alongside some xanax and alcohol, and while I had a great night, I was left with the feeling that by dosing in 16mg increments over the course of 2 hours I hadn't quite felt the full potential of this drug.
Today I intended to take my dose all at once and without alcohol or benzos to get a clearer idea of the potential this drug holds. Everything I've read about it suggests that it's one of, if not the, most euphoric of the opiates available, and I was eager to to see just how good one of my favourite class of drugs could get.
I arrived home around 2pm, well in need of some relaxation
All things considered my mood was ok, though I was a little tired and sore, and had only had a few biscuits for breakfast.
I started by dosing 10mg of promethazine and 50mg of DXM the moment I arrived home, the former as a precaution against nausea and itching, and the latter to slow the build up of tolerance and hopefully potentiate the drug in some manner (though I've found DXM only seems to significantly potentiate opiates in the case of codeine). I then broke out the pill and proceeded to go to town on it with a pair of scissors and a razor blade, the abuse prevention mechanism on these babies is no joke. Finally, after 10 minutes of slicing and dicing and a 30 second freak out when half the pill went flying across the room,I'd managed to grind it to a waxy almost-powder, which I promptly swallowed and washed down with a glass of milk. The taste wasn't particularly nice, so I grabbed another biscuit to get it out of my mouth and turned a movie on.
Perhaps because my stomach was relatively empty, but the feeling came on fast, and what a feeling. It started with a warm wave of relaxation that ran down my spine, through the normally knotted muscles in my back and along my legs and arms. The sensation was like stepping out of the cold and into a warm shower, instantly all the aches and pains I've grown accustomed to just melted away. Within minutes the warm body high was intense, I was stretching contently and fighting the urge to start rubbing my arms along my body like someone on their first dose of clean MDMA. The physical feeling reminded me of codeine, but amplified substantially and without the excessive itching and the uncomfortable histamine release, an incredible warm sensation.
As opposed to the physical high, the mental euphoria snuck up on me. I was perhaps so pre-occupied with how great I felt physically that it took me a while to realize that I was also in an amazing mood. My movie was suddenly a lot more engaging, I messaged half a dozen people online and struck up conversations, and much like what happened earlier with my body, it felt like nothing so much as a warm glow had coursed through me, washing away any fatigue or boredom or dissatisfaction. The sunlight pouring in out of my window felt warmer, the colors outside looked richer, music sounded better, and I was striking up friendly chatter with everyone I could. Time had almost slowed down to a crawl, I looked at the clock expecting to see that half an hour had passed only to realize it was closer to five minutes since I'd last checked. I was so lost in my own private heaven that it could have been seconds, or the entire afternoon, and I probably wouldn't have known. I don't think I would have traded where I was or how I felt for anything in the world right then.
After about 15 minutes of this, I felt a slight discomfort in my stomach and dosed another 5mg of promethazine to ward off nausea. Confident that I could push things a little further, I pulled out the last quarter of my pill and spent 5 minutes shopping it up as best as I could manage. I washed it down with another glass of milk and contently slid back in my chair to continue my movie.
It felt like no time at all when a second wave followed the first, a wave of molten chocolate and happiness running over the body and mind. I could instantly understand why this drug had such a following amongst IV users, even orally this was intense, the body high was better than morphine and the euphoria more all-encompassing than oxycodone. I was floating in a warm cloud of narcotic heaven.
Instantly I felt the need to share this amazing sensation with someone, and not wanting to ramble on to people about how high I was over facebook or MSN, decided to write a trip report. This something I've wanted to do for a long time but never gotten around to. Usually this kind of writing doesn't come easily for me, it takes an age for me to break through what feels like a perpetual case of writers block and start putting my words onto the screen. But today, like everything else, that writers block gave way to the warm joy running through my veins and melted away. My fingers darted over the keyboard as I began my attempt to put this transcendent feeling into words, writing came easily, usually I constantly second guess myself and go back editing sentences half a dozen times before I can stand them, but this time I launched instantly into a no doubt long winded account of my experience.
It's now 3:30 and I'm just over an hour into this drug and loving every second of it. The only complaint I can offer is that in spite of the anti-histamines I took, the familiar old opiate itch had slowly mounted until I was scratching my nose and neck furiously, but even this didn't detract from the amazing buzz, and I barely even noticed I was doing it after a while. The nausea had faded entirely now, and I went out into the kitchen to prepare a small meal. I was sweating slightly, but the usual intense summers heat wasn't even touching me, discomfort was something that happened to other people, it might as well have been a cool autumn morning. I took a quick glance in the mirror, my face was slightly flushed, my nose was red from constant scratching and pupils had shrunk to a pinprick, but otherwise there were no visible signs of intoxication.
I thought the high had peaked, but was proven wrong when an hour or so later I found myself slowly nodding out. At first it just felt like my eyes glazing over, but I was soon drifting into and out of a full blown nod, slipping into a seconds dream, then back out to realize that I'd missed 20 minutes of my movie. This went on for an hour or so, at which point I felt a sudden lurch in my gut. I barely managed to run through the kitchen in time to throw up violently in the bathroom, only to repeat the process 20 minutes later. After the second time, I decided a less prone position might do me some good, and I lay down with my feet elevated. The nausea abated and I returned to my movie, still incredibly high, but now feeling very heavy and comfortable, quite content to relax back and let the hours drift by.
I remained in this state for the rest of the afternoon as the high let me down slowly and gently. Even now, 12 hours later, I don't feel entirely back to baseline (and no complaints there :D ), which I'm putting down to the XR mechanism in the pills not entirely being broken by crushing. Sadly, thanks to this XR mechanism, experimenting with other ROA's is out of the question, I can only imagine how mind-blowing this drug would be if you could compress the experience by snorting or IVing.
Sorry if this report is a bit long winded, I tend to carry on when high
In summary, the bar has been raised. It's been a long time since I've so thoroughly enjoyed myself while high, and hydromorphone has definitely takes the crown for recreational opiate use. I can't recommend it enough to those out there so inclined, and intend to repeat the experience at the first available opportunity.
