hydromorphone IR (2mg) vs Tylenol 3

i've got 5 IR hydro morphones at 2mg a pop and 9 t3's.

are hydro's more potent than codeine? how many 2mg hydros are the ~ of 1 tylenol 3?

sorry if this is a dumb question but i did google and bluelight search with no results.
 
Hydromorphone is much more potent than codeine.

Another important difference is that hydromorphone is not very active orally, and codeine is basically only active orally.

It's hard to do an exact conversion because of this issue, but I'll try my best:

(From the BL opiate conversion chart, linked to in my signature)

ORAL ROUTE:
Codeine = 200 mg
Hydromorphone = 7.5 mg

One Tylenol 3 (T3) contains 30mg of codeine, which means that one T3 (via the oral route) is approx equal to 1.125mg of hydromorphone via the oral route. It is important to note that this conversion only applies to the oral route. Hydromorphone is much more active if you snort, plug or IV it.

If you were to snort the hydromorphone then the conversion would be different. One T3 (via the oral route) is approx equal to 0.225mg of hydromorphone via the snorting route.

Hope this helps. Please remember how potent hydromorphone is compared to codeine.

ahh i see... thank you!

i just had major reconstructive nose surgery (and then got punched in the face multiple times days after) so i unfortunately can't snort anything. but ill save the hydros for when i can.

plugging is just too awkward for me

sorry double post

so does that mean snorting one of these hydros is like eating ~5 t3's? or am i lost here?

One Tylenol 3 contains 300mg APAP, and you would need about nine Tylenol 3's to get to about the same level as 2mg of (snorted) hydromorphone. The codeine and hydromorphone highs are similar, but they are certainly not the same.

Of course, your results may vary. Everybody's body chemistry is different and everybody's reaction to drugs is different. Always best to start low and work your way up. It's a good idea to wait until your nose is healed to snort the hydromorphone. When you do, start with 0.5mg or so and work your way up from there. Snorted hydromorphone works quickly.

Another important note is that Tylenol #3 has APAP in it. If you took nine T3's that would be 2700mg APAP, which is not at the 4000mg a day limit, but its still a very large amount of APAP.

If you go that route, I recommend doing a Cold Water Extraction to get rid of the APAP and save your liver. :)
 
If you get high on 90mg of codeine, then you should be vary careful when dosing hydromorphone, it is very powerful and, if you ask me, on a different level than codeine is.

When I started using opiates, I started with hydrocodone and codeine every once in a while, then lots of hydrocodone. It wasn't until I discovered hydromorphone and oxycodone that my opiate addiction got serious, because I really, really liked hydromorphone.

I'm not trying to scare you away from using hydromorphone, just letting you know to be vary careful when you snort it. Since you've got a 2mg pill, split it in half (with a pill splitter if you can) so you've got a 1mg piece. Break that 1mg piece in half so you have a 0.5mg piece, then crush it up and snort that 0.5mg line. Work your way up from there.

I'm not really impressed with hydromorphones, just because of my side effects and the fact that compared to IV, they aren't very powerful -- so they don't really do that great with my pain. They take it from 8.5/9 to a 6 or 7. So, I get all the dulls and not much of a life, yanno?

Snorted hydromorphone is comparable to snorted morphine, whereas IV hydromorphone is sometimes compared to IV heroin or morphine, both in terms of euphoria/recreational value and pain relief.

Everybody is different, however, the OP wasn't asking about IVing hydromorphone, and I don't recommend using the IV route when many other safer options exist, especially for someone who has a very low opiate tolerance.

That's good info NeighborhoodThreat, I wonder if people hallucinate on IV heroin? I had some of the best ideas on IV hydromorphone!

Guess I'll need to search the site a bit more - if I could have that kind of pain relief everyday, I'll be a happy person.
 
^There are many threads about pain management and the use of various opiates for pain management. As far as "hallucinate" goes, I don't when I'm opiates, I more close my eyes and start to dream instantly, which certainly causes some great ideas!

my nose got broken cuz my black out girlfriend started punching me in the face. it ended up with her going to jail.. yeah, long story.

got a question though! had the surgery monday, had it re broken wednesday. saw doc today(friday) he said i may as well take the splint off as its doing no good anymore and told me i could take the dis solvable cotton wadding out whenever possible.

i took it out tonight. my nose is still crusty from blood, my face is still yellow and bruised, and boy it feels good to breathe through my nose again.

my question is this: what's the safe waiting distance i should take before sniffing these hydro's? i think their may be one dis solvable stitch in there but i dunno if its still there or not. how many more days do you think i should wait?

I wouldn't snort anything until your nose is at least mostly healed. If you still have to have the cotton in there every once in a while its probably not a good idea to snort things, it could cause more damage to your nose and increase your recovery time.

I would stick to taking the T3's until your nose heals some more. :)
 
Comparing codeine to hydromorphone is like comparing caffeine to dextroamphetamine.

Drugs like morphine/heroin, hydromorphone, oxymorphone, levorphanol, and fentanyl are are on a totally different level, especially when IV'd compared to drugs like codeine, hydrocodone, and even oxycodone.
