Today I had my first experience IV'ing Dilaudid. Prior to this occasion I had never IV'ed ANYTHING. I have been on opiod pain management for little over 7 years and have experienced everything available with the exception of heroin and fentynal. I have had hydromorphone before in ER form (PM Dr. had me try 16mg Exalgo for a month once it became available and it was a dissapointment to say the least. I am currently on Opana ER (Oxymorphone) 40mg 3 x day and 10mg Opana IR 5 x day. I snort the ERs for maximum relief due to their poor oral bioavailability and have been doing so for about a year. Needless to say I have an obscene tolerance. I can rail two 80mg Oxycontins in one sitting and can get up and go to work (Not that I am proud of this but I am providing this info for harm reduction for inexperienced opiate users) I have a phobia of needles and for this reason I have never IV'ed any of my opiates. I told myself I would make an exception if I came across any IR dillies due to all the hype. Well I got a hold of a few 8mgs for a very reasonable price.
Here we go:
T 0:00 - Placed 8mg pill inside straw and crushed with lighter. Placed powder in shot glass with 30cc of luke warm water and stirred. Belt was used as a tourniquet. Using a 1cc insulin syringe I inserted needle at inverted angle into forearm vein and pulled back to register and began injection. Upon pulling out syringe began to feel rush.
T 0:05 - I am engulfed in waves of warm rushing euphoria. Not as intense as I expected but unlike any other high I've experienced. As others have described it is a "Rushing" high which is somewhat uncommon for opiods.
T 0:10 - Still feeling it though though the rush has subsided a bit. Definetly still high though. I light a cigarette and sit back or rather melted into my chair - in a blissfull state. No pain, no worries - just bliss.
T 0:15 - The high is still there comparable to a heavy Oxycodone buzz. Still content, warm, fuzzy.
T 0:20 - Buzz is subsiding and I am drifting back to baseline (if you want to call it that lol). Please note I had insuffulated around 60+ mgs of Opana periodically throughout morning/day prior to iv'ing the D.
T 0:25 - Time for another rail of Opana and to headback to work.
All in all it was a pleasant experience and I contribute the less dramatic high due to my high tolerance. A few years ago this dose would have me nodding and puking so I am jaded to the effects of most opiates. Will I do it again? Yes. Do I have an uncontrollable desire to jam needles into my arms in public bathrooms? Absolutely not. I will save the rest for a rainy day. I do commend myself for overcoming my fear of needles though.
