Hydrocodone/phenylephrine syrup -- maximum safe dose of phenylephrine?

I was recently given a prescription for 5 mg hydrocodone/20mg phenylephrine syrup, and I'd like to know at what dosage the phenylephrine becomes dangerous. The clinical guidelines seem to suggest that 60mg/day is the max dosage, but I know those estimates are conservative. Does anyone have personal experience with this compound? FTR I am 100 pounds with lowish opiate tolerance; I am also taking Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) 50mg, trazodone 50mg nightly, and 15mg temazepam nightly (non-recreationally). Thank you.

60 is the max dose you should take according to some research. It is a selective a1-adrenergic agonist. A high dose of phenylephrine could potentially lead you to a hypertensive crisis. there isn't much information about it's effectiveness, but I would avoid taking high doses. High doses might potentially cause hypertension, tachycardia, stroke, myocardial infarction, and/or cardiac arrythmia. Don't quote me on this. I'm not a medical professional, but this is what I've researched.

Thank you for the advice. I took 15mg hydro/60mg phenylephrine earlier, and as I didn't feel any adverse effects from the 60mg I redosed with 10/40 a few hours later -- again, no side effects from the PE. But for safety's sake I don't think I'll exceed 100mg in the future. Of course I wouldn't recommend this to anyone else... I only felt safe doing it because I'm borderline hypotensive & an increase in blood pressure won't be disastrous for me. vv
