hydrocodone/oxycodone use questions

New here and have some questions/advice regarding hydrocodone/oxycodone usage.

Use of hydrocodone is limited to around 20-25mg once every 1-3 weeks at a time. Sometimes 5mg of oxycodone will be done as well equaling 20-25mg hydro, plus sometimes 5mg Oxycodone. Sometimes this is done one time a week for a few weeks in a row and then 2-3 weeks off. No other drugs are done at all, not even alcohol. This is done by a very physically athletic and healthy adult.

There is a background/history of real experimentation/usage (traditional things one would do in the 80s ;) ) as a youth but nothing anymore for decades (one reason nothing since then and never opiates). The purpose of current use is for stress relief/recreation and pain relief from lots of intense athletic activity. Discovered these little guys after an injury.

This pattern has been consistent for a little over 1 year. There is concern of building a tolerance or using too often/becoming really addicted. The big question, is this sustainable? Can someone use say 20-30mg of hydro/oxy once a week or once every two weeks and not build up a tolerance? Or is once a week too often and should it always be once every two weeks or something. How often and how much could someone do and not build up a tolerance?

There are currently no noticeable withdrawal symptoms in between uses. I know this might all seem really basic info but this is a new and not something with lots of experience form the past.

Thanks for the advice!!

Tolerance is always going to happen, even if you're mother theresa. it is part of the opiate downside, I have been taking opiates for years, I know all too well how the body builds up a tolerance to the medication. If you keep your doses steady, you should have no problem though, just never deviate from your dosing schedule, if you decide to take them sooner than you should or more frequent or at a higher dosage, you are playing with fire and before you know it you will be taking 10 times what you are now for the same effect. with opiates, less is more..

you are pretty much describing my opiate usage and no my tolerance has not gone up.

there will be many people here that will tell you it can't be done, but I've been keeping pretty much the same schedule for about 13 years now with no desire to do them more often than once a week.

It can be done but like you, its a rare species.

Well that's good to hear. Yeah I think I've done them once or twice over the past year quicker than 1 week but that was super rare, like a Friday night and a Sunday afternoon but that was only once or twice and that was months ago and I would always wait at least 2 weeks afterwards. So yeah really it's really only been once a week on average and sometimes every couple weeks for over a year now.

I'm pretty much the same. I find opiate use to be self-correcting because if I do too much, too often, I start to feel like crap when I'm sober. And I have to be sober to get things done and function as an adult.

There is (and always has been) this attitude on BL to ignore moderation when it comes to opiates. Almost as if moderation is something we talk about when discussing ecstasy, but completely forget about when it comes to oxy and heroin. Instead, we talk about safe injection, proper filtration techniques, and overdosing, while completely ignoring the fact that moderation would preclude, and therefore solve all of the problems that are all products of fiendish use. Yet, moderation is HR101, is it not? We've been pushing it since 1998.

I say cut the bullshit. Basic harm reduction doesn't stop when a drug feels too good, or is too addictive.

OP, you have the right idea and a good attitude toward opiates. You too, avcpl.

Shit, I've had 4 OC 20s cut into quarters and sitting in my cupboard for almost a week. I might chew a few chunks this weekend and I might not. It depends how I feel.

I'm sorry that this comment doesn't contribute much to the discussion; however, I felt I needed to say it.

I am jealous immensely of you Cyc, I simply would not have the willpower to not eat those immediately. I hope I can learn something from your maturity regarding opiate use. Lord knows, I've let it get out of control.

Yes, the best harm reduction is to stress moderate use of opiates! Also, doing these opiates on a schedule like yours minimizes the chances of increased tolerance or addiction.

You might find that you enjoy them much more if you abstain too!

I don't care how much I like something, I don't want it all the time. Whether it's steak, sex, or drugs, they are all much better if they are few and far between.

It's important to have contrast between pleasures. I like to work hard, exercise, eat well, during the week and on the weekend I still do some work but enjoy a bowl of ice cream, some opiates, and time with my wife.

Hang in there!
