Eh all, short & sweet:

I've read conflicting studies about whether Gabapentin makes the Hydrocodone high more effective, whilst some say it lessens the Hydrocodone high - anyone?

Thanks as always, interested to hear, take care,

-Cheers all!

Not everyone enjoys Gabapentin (Neurontin), first of all. As substances go, it tends to divide the populace more than say, Morphine, where 98% of people are probably going to rate the experience as essentially pleasurable.

If you like the effects of Gabapentin, then it's likely that you'll enjoy the effects produced by combining it with a powerful Opioid like Hydrocodone (Vicodin; Lortab). You can expect a greater degree of sedation/intoxication. My understanding is that Gabapentinoids like Gabapentin do not contribute significantly to the respiratory depression caused by Opioids, though as stated, the likelihood of sedation is greater. What I mean by this is that you're more likely to have an unsteady gait, slur your words, black out etc.

Heya, morning, thanks for the reply.

Yeah, so it's not so much about "enjoying" Gabapentin, as it is prescribed to me for off-label anxiety management. I enjoy Hydrocodone because it, "gets me going," so I would very much like to avoid the sedation type effects if at all possible, in order to enjoy the hyped-up Hydrocodone "rush" types of feelings. That said, should I try and stagger my doses during the day around the time that I take the Hydrocodone, etc.? Based on what you said, that would seem to make the most sense - keeping several hours between the doses, I would "hope" at least.

Thanks again as always, much appreciated for the knowledge, as there doesn't seem to be a ton of data on this particular study.

-Cheers!

Gabapentin decreases blood levels of hydrocodone from what I've read. And hydrocodone increases gabapentin levels.

The serum concentration of Hydrocodone can be decreased when it is combined with Gabapentin.

Gabapentin has also been reported to reduce the plasma concentrations of hydrocodone in a dose-dependent manner.

The NIH website says none of this true though however -

I have been actively high on hydrocodone & then taken gabapentin & been thrown into what felt like a mini-precipitated withdrawal.
