Opioids hydrocodone and stomach pain

I have a moderate to severe hydrocodone problem I'm in the process of trying to kick. I skipped my NA meeting tonight and go high instead. About 30-45 minutes after I took the pills I developed severe pain in my upper stomach area right beneath the xiphoid process. So after perusing the internet for information to decide if I should take a trip to the hospital. This symptom is one of which that they recommend seeking immediate medical care, the problem is that all sorts of minor things were listed in the same category such as itching and other things we know aren't a big deal. What I couldn't find is any information on what process within the body could actually be causing this pain? Is it my liver going out finally? Maybe a PE? I don't know I'm kinda freaking out. I don't wanna jump the gun and just go to the ER because my wife is currently up there working and as far as she knows I havnt used in over week, last time she threatened to leave me if I don't stop now. I just don't want to die or get divorced. Anybody that could shed some light on the subject please help.

Well, i've never tried out Hydrocodone so i cant help you on whether or not that's a rare symptom.

But wouldn't you basically be divorced anyways if you were to die?

Not saying that's going to happen so don't take this in that manner. I'm just saying if it is a potentially dangerous situation (again, not enough experience to say) i would recommend a trip to the ER regardless of the promise. I'm sure she would be happier with an alive partner that told the truth than one who died trying to cover up a decision.

You say your taking hydrocodone pills.
What dose are these pills?
Do they contain just hydrocodone, or do they have APAP or ibuprofen in them?
How did you "take" them - oral, snorted, iv?

And what do you mean by a PE? Pleural effusion? Pulmonary Edema?

Dude, if you think your in a potentially dangerous or life threatening situation. Then go to the ER and deal with your wife later, divorce isn't a death sentence - but acute liver failure can and will be if you don't get treatment.

Other than that, we would need more information to give you an informed answer - keeping in mind that most of us are not doctors or medical professionals.

Sounds like epigastric pain. I assume he meant pul. embolism, which would not be causing upper abdominal pain and a more likely symptoms would be shortness of breath.

I don't see why your wife would associate this pain with using hydrocodone, so don't tell her that you took any, simple. You can tell a doctor and tell him that she cannot know, he is obligated to with hold any info if you ask.

Did you have any trouble swallowing the pills? Have you vomited recently, or felt a strong need to? Do you have any esophageal reflux? This sounds like pain from the upper stomach and lower esophagus, basically where they meet might be a bit dysfuctional. A hiatal hernia acting up, esophageal spasms or maybe a esophageal sphincter.

How many pills do you take a day and for how long have you been doing it? Also, what is the Paracetamol content?

First of all.. you should just go to the ER, I am not a doctor. I can relate experience but I cannot diagnose or treat.

More info would be helpful if you could try to elaborate.. absolutely anything you can think to say.

As mentioned / insinuated above, I've had pills that got stuck before making it to my stomach that have caused severe pain in that upper stomach location. Intense horrible horrible pain. Worse than heartburn/etc.

Also sometimes I find after dosing, before I've come up, I just feel sick with a terribly knotted stomach and need to lie down. Eating a plain piece of bread and sipping on a sweet drink could help.

All of my experience is not with hydrocodone, but similar drugs (codeine, oxy, morphine)

My guess is it is either pills trapped or heartburn/indigestion/somesuch related pain. Try taking some very large forceful gulps of a drink, try sipping on a hot drink (to break up whatever it might be), even try jumping up and down/patting your chest to get things moving physically.

If it hasn't passed after a period - say half an hour/45 minutes - then I would go to the ER. TELL them exactly what happened. Even if it's your wife. She'll handle the news you got high better than the news you got high then lied to her about it. Also it is of utmost importance that medical professionals understand the situation - this is where I personally draw the line of lying. I will never, ever, lie in an ER, regardless of the ramifications.
