I have become a just recent iv user and i have had quite a few misses in thelast four days normally this is easy for me but now i cant find any viens except in my hands which i really dont want to do . I have really painful red and swollen huge lumps on both arms in different spots where i missed does this go away or should i get this checked i am a clean iv user and practice sterile injections thank you for any insight it would be helpful.

Hey Jay,

Missed shots can become abscesses so that's what you have to be concerned about. If the red painful lumps are getting worse and not better then you need to get them checked out by a doctor. If left untreated you can get a nasty infection, damage the skin, and possibly worse.

Using sterile equipment surely helps lower the chance of getting an abscess, but it's still a very realistic possibility. Micron filters are essential for IV users, especially for those that often miss shots since these micron filters definitely help reduce the chance of getting an abscess.

IVing in your hands is worse than in your arms because you get less circulation in your hands than in your arms, so if you can still hit in your arms then try for them. Ideally you can take a break from IVing whether it be by switching ROA's, or stopping using by using suboxone, methadone, or quitting cold turkey.

I'm moving this to the correct forum.
