i created a thread for the man. lets discuss all about him from his works to the qoutes of the man himself.

My teacher told me one time that the man was givin two free tickets to the superbowl, just so he could write a an article about it, then once he got there, he gave the tickets to two homeless men, bought some liquor, got drunk as hell and walked around the city (not sure which city). He then wrote an article about his drunken adventure and submitted it.

If anyone knows any more details about this, I wanna hear them, haha.

^There was another movie about him called "Where the Buffalo Roam". He actually does that in the movie, along with other hilarious things. Great movie BTW, it blows Fear and Loathing out of the water despite being at least 20 years older.

im a huge hst fan,,,i have read most of his book and think he was brillant writer... there was a documentary called "Breakfast With Hunter" that i have yet to see , anyone see it?

Cool man, i'll definitely be checking it out. He sounds like quite a character.

Blasphemy. It certainly blows, but not quite in the way you've described it.

While I love the man and have most of his books this is probably the 11 000th thread on bluelight about Hunter. Or maybe it just seems that way.

Hunter S. Thompson's Suicide note

"Football Season is over."
"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun -- for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax -- This won't hurt."

I think this note is a fitting last written word from a great writer. I think it captures his writing and attitude perfectly.

I will say, I liked his work but if anyone where to do this now I am not sure they would be recieved with open arms. He basically acted irresponsilby with drugs, wrote about it, and than made shit up or embellished to make it more interesting. His style was awesome though.

fuckin right on! personally, I enjoyed Bill Murray's acting far more than Johnny Depp's. The movie was far-out like it shoulda been. Fear and Loathing felt like a kinda weird trip that really went nowhere fast. I guess there's not much to be said for acting nowadays; people would rather be shitty actors and outrageous like johnny knoxville than be able to put on a good show without being a complete asshat. My favorite Hunter quote is undeniably "Going to trial with a lawyer who considers your whole life-style a Crime in Progress is not a happy prospect." makes me grin :D

great writer. try looking past fear and loathing in las vegas (not knocking it, great book) to some of his other work like fear and loathing on the campaign trail, the great shark hunt, hell's angels, curse of the lono.... he used to write a column for espn.com as well that may be around in archive somewhere. a maniac/genius of the highest caliber, he wouldn't have made it past twenty in today's america, which is sad.

^^^ The volumes of the gonzo papers are brilliant. Hells angels was good but it was interesting to see how his style evolved from then.

what drugs he took?

To quote Fear and loathing -

We had two bags of grass, seventy-
five pellets of mescaline, five
sheets of high powered blotter
acid, a salt shaker half full of
cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-
colored uppers, downers, screamers,
laughers... Also a quart of tequila,
a quart of rum, a case of beer, a
pint of raw ether and two dozen
amyls.
