How young were you when you first thought about drugs?

Alcohol was always there, first Shandy was at maybe 7 and from then I'd sneak more and more beer and less lemonade in. Borderline alcoholic even then, how cute.

I remember a government drug booklet when I was 10 (last year of primary school). I remember Tranquilisers seeming cool ("if I ever have to do drugs then these seem like the least bad ones"). And hearing on the news about 'heroines' and 'disco biscuits'. Oh dear.

Then when I was maybe 14 I realised that I didn't really know the difference between cocaine and cannabis and charlie and ganja (except that my friend's brother screwed up on cocaine, but I didn't know what it was), so I did some research, which coincided with a project I had to do at school. Cue sitting on Erowid and Bluelight all evening for weeks, and getting obsessed by a romantic drug image.

It all went downhill from there, hehe

DARE in 5th grade. Like everyone else, they kept talking about the drugs and I just thoguht that they sounded like fun. Seeing things that aren't there, the extreme pleasure, etc.

Around 7th grade I got really interested, tried DXM, and it just went downhill from there..

12 years old, 5th grade, my Dare essay won one of the top 3 in the class and I had to read it in front of a bunch of people. At the last day I modified my report and dumbed it down because I didnt want to win. I wouldnt have anyway, because this girl wrote a crazy paper for a 5th grader and blew everyone away. 5 years later she became my first weed dealer.. LOL

I think I first seriously considered drugs when I was 14 when I read about some weird thing called "LSD". Then I read about someother thing called "Methamphetamine". And the rest is history.

In middle school I won the DARE essay contest. I had to read it in front of my entire grade.

Oh the irony.

That's hilarious! I won the essay contest as well! And I was 15 minutes late that day, too!

But anyway, I knew about drugs as long as I could remember...I saw doing drugs as a question of when, not if...then in 9th grade I used some Robitussin Flu to take my morning Provigil.

But that's a story for another thread.

Hmm, I see a trend with the D.A.R.E essay winners.. chalk me up as another ;).

Like others, I've known from a very young age that I would be a drug user, as dramatic as that may sound.

I was raised with Kurt Cobain wailing through the house and I loved it at age 7 (still do). Kurt was the man and when I was told about his death and all of his drug problems, it was my first experience with a "darker" side. It was at age 7 that I first thought about drug ab(use), and only took on a deeper fascination when I would see 'LSD' and pot leaves tagged on a bridge or stash kits of the D.A.R.E officers.

I gave a D.A.R.E speech in 5th grade to over a thousand other students and their parents with a tongue in my cheek knowing one day I might laugh about it (but at the time, it was giving me extra credit.)

I got drunk at 14 and have been getting high on about 10 different substances since.

lol, yeah unfortunately i grew up with a mum as a doctor so i had all the anti-drug conversations most of my life, so i was dead against it for ages. I think i was about 14 when my mind started going from 'i would never touch marijuana' to "well...if someone offered me marijuana i'd just try a tiny bit of it" to "Bloody hell, where are all the people here with weed? I want to try some!" About 6 months after that i started smoking, and never stopped:) And got into amost everything else too:P Best decision of my life!
