Ok ......so my g/f's little brother got cought with a bowl (pen and tinfoil lol) and a lighter..

I'm all for smokin the herb

but the kid is only 13

so what do you think the cut off is?

How young is too young to be smoking pot?

I started actually in the same month that i turned 16. I dont think 13 is too young, unless you still have a lot of maturity type things to go through, such as puberty, and as long as it doesnt affect your school work. That is when its too early, when you dont have good study habits in (not that i ever have...)

I started at 13. I'd never take it back. Wish I'd started when I was 12 (met my first stoner friend). You can buy it, smoke it, eat it, sell it, grow it, (and get arrested for each one of them!)... it's fucking awesome. I think it should be a family thing; it is at my house. It makes my life so much more interesting. And it's a great social thing if your kid is insecure or just weird, heh.

I'm really baked now, but unless you smoked when you were his age and noticed serious negative effects, you should let him do it at least for a while (and see if it does effect him negatively, in which case you'd have him stop) imo.

My parent's philosophy was "We know we can't keep you from doing it.. may as well do it here so you dont get arrested." It's such a comfort not to have to hide things like that from your parents, and you can guide his use if your allowing it to some extent.

[EDIT] Ha, I wrote that in the sense that you were his dad, which I now know your not. But you know what I mean...

I tried pot early enough but didn't start using properly until after I had finished school. I don't mind if my kids try pot earlier but i wouldn't want them smoking regularly until they are adults. I just think it is too easy to become a bong head that does nothing besides sit around and smoke pot when you are younger.

As for 13, that to me is too young to even be trying any drug (alcohol included).

Yeah....I think it's too young too

I didn't start till 16 and i'm pretty sure that was plenty early

The this is his parents are fucking nazis........so i feel bad for him

I think if he was shown a little trust once in a while he never would have done it in the first place

i wish I had started smoking later than I did, and i started around 16 and was a daily toker by 17. (im now 24)

I've noticed that as i've gotten older my self control when it comes to drugs has gotten a lot stronger, but with pot ive been smoking daily for years and so it's more than just a matter of self control, there is also the issue of withdrawl and adjusting to what life would be like without pot.

for this reason, if pot were legalized, i would support the legal age being around 21, just like alcohol. that doesnt mean that i dont think people can use responsibly earlier, i just think that is an age at which most people can use responsibly.

In Puerto Rico everything's legal at 18, pot should be too. I first smoked in Xmas '99 and I'm 18 and married now, been smoking ever since.

yep 13 is exactly how old i was when i discovered pot. it was kinda cool then now that i think about it. smoked heavy till i was 15 and now im just the occasional user at university. so i dont think the age i started had any effect on my life wot so ever. one thing i can say is that im glad i got the stoner days out of my system younger rather then now, i need my short term memory now!. a note to young people: just be smart and dont get caught. youll be suprised how dumb you are being when you are trying to get away with smoking pot. shit im suprised i didnt get caught with all the dumb shit i did on pot., LOL

I remember reading somewhere that becoming a regular user during early adolescence makes you more likely to come down with certain mental illnesses and have problems with concentrating, etc. That said, if he's only an occassional user, I don't think it should be a huge problem- that's the age I started, and it didn't do me any harm.

i don't think its too young to smoke occasionally but smoking every day at that age might harm his psychological and cognitive development.

The brain is still developing some pretty important areas through the early teenage years. Mainly problem solving and social development type skills.

Even at 16 your brain is still finishing up your internal wiring.

Although by 16 I think smoking is pretty fine, but smoking daily is overboard at any age in my opinion.

i started around 13-14 and was smoking everday by the time i was 16. I'm now almost 20.

I too wish I'd waited longer.

imho, the propaganda isn't all lies. The early you start, the earlier you'll probably get addicted and the earlier you'll probably progress onto other drugs.

cost = $0.02

:)

My honest advice: Tell him to wait till you're over 20

Yes, I know you're not going to take that seriously and I'm probably gonna get laughed at for this, but ... well, I swear I should have waited
(Started at 16 BTW. 3 years later I'm smoking 5 or 6 joints a day)

they should try it when they know they can control their use, i couldn´t when i was ~16 even though i thought i could but i dont regret it now (will be 20 this year) :)

It depends on the individual. I've met 10 year olds more mature then some of the 20 year olds at my school. Age is meaningless.

I notice a lot of people here commenting on maturity being a major factor. But I'd just like to say, just because a kid can act mature doesn't mean their mind is developed enough to start tossing in a bunch of mind altering chemicals. It shouldn't have anything to do with maturity, but almost purely of the persons continual brain development as an adolesent. Start using during the end phase, where it is likely to do the least amount of damage as far as laying down your final wiring.

I'm appalled(no, that's too strong of word... but you get the point) at seeing so many young young people here on bluelight. People who are daily users by the time their 15-16 years old. It is of course just my personal opinion, and I know tons of underaged potheaded will disagree or even get angry at what I say. But I still think people should seriously wait, and if you're not going to wait then at least use a little responsability. Smoking everyday is not considered a little responsability either. Take care of yourselve's kids, you've only got one body, one mind, and one life.
