How young is too young?

I started in 5th grade (11 or 12) and I honestly dont think it was a big issue, as I was too young (poor and naive) to smoke on a regular basis. I didn't start smoking regularly until I was in 8th grade, and didn't start smoking on a daily basis until I was 14 or 15. After I turned 17, I was arrested and forced to quit smoking for a year, which I am now grateful for because it showed me that if I apply myself, I have the ability to break this habit. In fact, once I started smoking after that 1 year peroid, I couldn't stand herb for a good 3 or 4 months and almost shrugged it off for good (but my damn friends kept on passing me bowls and now I'm a fucking daily pothead again). If there is a drug out there that I believe is aceptable to experiment with at an early age, it is pot (if anything).

i dont fuck with little kids anymore ever since i got busted.. anyone 17 or under wont be hanging around me if there is drinking/smokin goin on in my place... but ya I started smoking at 15, some college kids introduced it to me while on vacation right after we went skinny dippin.. crazzy night.. just.. this is the problem with smoking young.. You usually smoke when you have problems, well if you are this young and dont learn how to deal with your problems cause you are accusted to just lettin the pipe pick ya back up or whateva then your not gonna learn anything and its just gonna open u up to more drugs.. so to all you young kids out there.... DRUGS ARE BAD MMMMKAAAYYY

I smoked my first joint when I was 10yrs old but I didn't really start smoking until I was 14 and on my way to high school. Once in high school I stopped smoking for 2 1/2 years and then when I was bout 16-17yrs old I started smoking like crazy.

I say anything under 13-14 range is bad.

i know people are gonna bite me for this comment, but whatev...

i tried smoking herb when i was 15, and started smoking a ton when i was 16. i believe that it would have been better to wait until i was 19 or 20 to start, ideally. why, you ask? because i believe that people's brains and even bodies are not developed enough at the age of 16, and smoking a lot of pot during this high growth stage could alter the chemistry of one person profoundly, possibly in a negative way. i think if i'd have kept up sports and fitness totally when i was 16 and only been introduced to cannabis when i was 20 (i'm only 19), then i might have better developed physically and mentally.

Exactly.

Even if someone is 'mature' or 'knows the risks involved' or 'whathaveyou'. That doesn't change the fact that your brain is not finished developing. It can and often will effect that mush you call a brain, no matter how mature you are, no matter how much you know about the risks, etc.

It may be possible to use in moderation at that age without doing much of anything to your brain. But that'll be the day, when a younger kid practices moderation...

I have been thinking about this a lot since I'm about to have a baby soon. Before I got pregnant, it wasn't something I ever really thought about. I started smoking when I was 14 and my sister smoked with me the first time on her 13th birthday, but I think that was way too young now. But on the other hand, I don't want to look like a hypocrite to my kid.

So the happy medium I have decided to go with is wait to bring up the subject until my kid comes to me, or I find out that he/she is doing it on his/her own. If he/she is younger than 16, I am going to be totally honest with the truth about smoking weed. I don't want my kid growing up thinking all those DARE lies are true. I figure if I stay honest and open with my kid, he/she will be more likely to obey me when I say he/she can't smoke until he/she is 16, and then only with me and his/her father in our home. If I let my kid know that I'm ok with it once he/she is 16 I believe he/she will be less likely to go behind my back and do it "just do rebel".

Granted, I don't know if this will work or not, but I think that if my mom and dad had treated me like an adult and were honest and open with me, I probably wouldn't have done have the stupid crap I did in high school.

I started at 15 (still am :D) although I'm a late starter for the most part. I think 15 is too young, my brain is still developing and maturing.

But that'll be the day, when a younger kid practices moderation...

Hey! I use moderation with all substances. Wait at least 2 weeks between mushroom sessions and for cannabis, once - twice a week max.

first used at 15, still am not a regular although i'm thikning of picking it up more in favor of some other worse habits I seem to have.

EDIT- I'm 16 now for those of you who didnt know

i started smoking when i was 12, and to this day still smoke everyday.
My dad also smokes and so we smoke together which i guess also made it easier at such a young age.
i think it depends on the situation in which they are smoking, for example:
maturity, who they are with, where they are, past experiences.

my 2 cents........ :)

I dunno...13 is iffy...but if your responsable then whos stopping you...i dont think there should be an age limit..it should more be a maturity limit..like if your going to go around bragging how you smoke at that age..and are bveing stupid with it,...thne hell no...but if your just chilling..then smoking is no biggie..also i say wait until your parents allow you to do it...unless they are like corporate ass holes and never would, but if they are cool...just wait and the rewards will be awesome..i know my mom lets me...its funny...she'll come up and ask to borrow my bowl...or if i have any papers..r como pot with me...or if im in a shitty mood and she tries bothering me i just tell her im trying to smoke a bowl...and she'll leave me alone...

being allowed to adds to the ocmfort of being a stoner...casue your suposed to be relaxed when smoking ganja...not freaked out and blowing it out a window with a fan and a million inscense..and your door shut with blankets to keep air from going out and shit ..and rushing to smoke it before you get caught....
or worse..going out to smoke where your not suposed to and then getting caugtht by someone else and have the cops on your unfortunate ass...

just wait until you can/or until your mature enough to handle it is my advice

if you start before puberty your fuckin addicted for life

If ya didnt know child habits are nearly impossible to break, so lets take weed and get a 13 years old smoke for a while. He'll be addicted after that year. Look how kids get addicted to fuckin candy, what u think drugs are less addicting! Anyway another fact is that drugs fuck up the brain before puberty because it isnt properly developed and the thc just overwelms the little mutha fuckas. Besides smokin early will compermenately fuck up there lungs because guess what...those arent developed eitha! So any kiddies wannin to smoke weed, shut the fuck up before i kick your ass you dum fuck! Take it from your parents, its bad for kids!

By the way... I smoked my first dube at 10. The next time i smoked was at 15 and i havent stopeed yet!!

I didn't start really smoking till I was 15. I started smoking daily about a month or so before I turned 16, and I still do. I wouldn't say I was too young then. In fact, I kind of wish I had started earlier, like 13 maybe, I was just always too worried about the possible consequences. Not much I can do about it now though.

I feel like I missed out on a lot by not starting young. Had I been given a good chance to when I was younger, I certainly would've taken it. I guess that I've generally enjoyed life more since I started smoking regularly. I'm not sure if I would've been able to handle a lot of the negative things about it though. I guess I'll never know for sure.

Not just socially, but physically and developementally weed delays, impedes or stops some of the developement in areas in the brain. Memory is one place for example. Or one function thats impaired more so. If you start smoking before your brain is fully developed it can stop those improvements. Better safe than sorry I'd say. Not until 18. Peace.

I think anyone has the right to toke up no matter how young. I have smoked with countless kids under the age of 10.
