How young is too young?

well, i guess im waaaay outside the norm, cuz the first time i smoked pot i was 11. I smoke about three times, but then moved from Oregon to Texas, and stopped for almost 3 years, and started up about at the end of 8th grade again.

It should be noted that i am in no way mentally retarded from starting so young, although i will say i dont have much drive in alot of my academics, but maybe thats just how i am you know?

13 is way too young IMHO. I started smoking green when I was about 17. I think research is suggesting the earlier you take it up the more chance there is of never kicking the habbit.

age of 20 is normal

Well it's not the average age of experimenting with marijuana here in Australia, nor in the USA I would imagine. Something like 70-80% of teenagers have tried it.

i understand fully what people mean when they say 13 is too young to try any substance.. but what i cant understand is those who totally accept for their child to go out and drink half a litre of vodka and throw up and almost certainly black out but when it comes to a bit of marijuana they totally disagree with their child trying it... I know though that alot of people on bluelight understand how dangorous alcohol can be and have noticed many comments on how alcohol is also a drug that shuldnt really be tried at 13.

I think that it is the parents choice at the end of the day. I am 19 years old and began smoking disgusting resin around age 13.. when i found skunk at 14 there was no going back, i prefer it to alochol.. i feel more in control on weed and i prefer that substance. I do agree with those who let their children smoke in the house or buy them their beers so you can watch them moderate their use.

I think some people are never ready for a drug such as cannabis, and there are those people who can handle psychedelics such as cannabis at a young age.

I'd say 18 or 21, The more young you start smoking the better chance you have to develop mental illness or other mental health problems.

Most kids try it around 14. and start smoking it regularly at 15-16 (America)

Here in the UK a lot of kids will start smoking it regularly at 12-13

started at 13.. probably would've waited longer but some of my good friends had already started and thats how i ended up tryin it... i dont really regret it it ends up making you alot more mature then people your age at that time and makes you grow up alot imo

This thread makes me wanna cry..

Dont blame you dude!

Firstly To all of you that started when you were at a simelar age... YOU should know better! Starting to smoke pot at 13 is not a good idea at all and is not exceptable in my book. take alcohol the lowest drinking age I know of is 18, its there for a reason to protect the user as well as society. You start giving an undeveloped mind, mind ultering drugs and it WILL wire its self into a feking mess! I dont care if you all want to play dumb to the psychological effects that weed can have on the human brain but they are real! I have seen my best friends brother slip into drug induced paraniod Schizophrenia. I have worked with both teenagers and adults that suffer from many forms or drug induce psycosis and its not a pretty site to see some one that had the potential to become what ever they wanted end up spends days on end sitting in a corner rocking because they cant get the voice in their telling them every one is against them to stop for just 1 minuet!

So ye if you want to be compleatly irespocible then give the kid a fat spliff and watch him fuck up his life. On the other hand sit down and talk to him, explain the pros and cons to him and that it is NOT a good idea to start smoking at such a young age.

^^ Let the kids be ignorant it will hit home pretty hard when it becomes a first hand experience.

I started at 13/14 but only at weekends really. I wish i had started a bit later, but i've met a lot of good friends through smoking that i otherwise would not have.

i know 4 people that had a cannabis induced psychosis myself. im not saying cannabis is the only cause, but thats what triggered it in all 4 cases.

some people already mentioned it, in your teens your mind is still developing. smoking weed at an early age can really fuck up the process. i honestly believe that people tend to get stuck at the age they started smoking daily. they just dont mature like their clean friends do. id say 16 is the earliest, but i would say wait till 18 to be sure. i smoked my first joint at 16 but it took quite a while for me to become a regular smoker. im 21 now i and i only toke occasionally. maybe once a week on average. sometimes more, sometimes less.

Let's keep this discussion civil please.

Cannabis is able to cause a psychosis, though it has more to do with the person in question than with weed, weed is simply the trigger that set's it off, if you're not pre-disposed then you're not going to get psychotic.

Smoking on early age is a whole different matter. It's detrimental to the development of a growing brain. And to the question "says who", studies say so.

I find this statement extremely insulting / ridiculous. Your trying to tell me (an educated college student) im still 15 yrs. old "mentally". You possess the exact type of attitude that keeps pot illegal. I have an uncle that is a Professor / Archeologist at Yale, thats been smoking since he was in his early teens. He is now 51 yrs.old. Is he also 15 mentally??8( :p ^^^^Someone please post your links that back up these so-called "facts"^^^^^ Who were these studies that state these facts funded by, the gov.? Do you really trust gov. funded studies?????:| Havent we learned our lessen from the fraudulent ecstasy studies they conducted?
