How will Inositol affect my roll?

Dearest Bluelighters,

I have recently started taking 650mg of Inositol on a daily basis. Despite taking both Citicoline and Inositol, I know little of how nootropics actually work. I do, however, believe that I am right in thinking that Inositol's benefits stem from its sensitizing of serotonin receptors, and its effects on acetylcholine and dopamine levels (and possibly receptors?). Inositol is used to help treat depression, anxiety, social anxiety and OCD.

I would be most grateful if anyone could tell might how consuming Inositol two weeks or so before consuming MDMA, and indeed the day of dropping, might affect my roll?

Does anyone have any experience with this supplement, either as part of a daily regimen or as a pre-roll/post-roll tool?

I'm cautious with anything that affects serotonin, given that SSRI's completely blunt the experience, whilst consumption of 5-HTP for a week prior to rolling can dampen the experience and actually cause serotonin syndrome if taken too close to the MDMA. This said, I do believe that Inositol works quite differently to SSRI's and 5-HTP, and my layman guess is that it could actually enhance the experience?

Any help would be hugely appreciated, given that I am due to roll in just over a week! (yay!)

Many thanks :)

Inositol in those low doses is unlikely to do much, you should be eating more than that daily as part of a normal healthy diet. I'm not sure what you've been told by whoever sold you the supplement, but it's just a type of sugar.

Small studies using much larger doses of inositol have shown it might have some effect on some of those disorders you listed, but it's not conclusive, it's not a common treatment & they were between 12-18g a day doses. 650mg isn't going to make much difference to anything & it's not certain that those huge doses work either.

Isn't supplementing with 5htp before a roll suppose to make you roll harder if anything?

I do take inositol with a lot of other supplements before / after I roll but don't know if it actually works. I have never had any comedown so I'm happy to stick to my supplement regime.

if it would really work as intented then yes, but most people report no effects or a muted roll. the reason might be that the 5-htp does not reach the brain, if not combined with an appropriate enzyme inhibitor.

Depends what you mean by works? It's one of those supplements that you should be getting plenty of in a normal diet, it's in lots of different foods.

It's unlikely to cause any harm other than wasting cash on unnecessary supplements.
