How to "train up" my veins?

Hi!

I have over the last 5 years destroyed my veins by shooting heroin and - even worse - crushed pills (although rarely). This means it could sometimes take 25 minutes to find a spot. So I, no doubt, deserve this, but...

I was wondering, can I "train up" my veins again? And what will it take? Weight-loss (I'm a pretty heavy guy which means that my veins can be pretty hard to see)?? Weight-lifting? Stop smoking (will this have any real effect on my veins)?? Or maybe there's another sollution I haven't heard of.

First off, it has to be said, I've been giving my veins a rest for the last 4 months, and I plan to keep on doing so - I don't wanna completely ruin every vein. But those that are "dead" or "near-dead", will I be able train them up agin?

Or will they just grow out with time again? Or will new ones "grow out"??

NB: I searched for this topic, but couldn't find exactly what I searched for.

I hope someone here can help me, as I really want my veins to become semi-normal again.

Stopping smoking and being a healthy weight is always good for your health and quality of life in general.

My understanding is that if you have more muscle mass, that will require more blood, and that will require more veins. I would also think if some veins are damaged then other veins will take up the slack.

What do you mean by "train up"? Do you mean having your veins become more visible, full, and stick out more from exercise?

Try weightlifting like with hand weights and daily lifting.

Pushups and other weight training may help. Maybe some cardio too?

Stop smoking and if you IV stop that and talk to a doctor too. Weightlifting will help you lose weight too or tighten up your body, and so will some of the cardio.

From what I understand if veins have "collapsed" or are "dead" as you put it, it is due to them being damaged or a build up of scar tissue on the inside that has restricted or completely cut off blood flow. I'm pretty sure it's not reversible but as vegueblur said if a few collapse then other veins close by will take up the slack. Collapse too many and you might get circulation problems on that limb? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Building muscle and lowering your body fat % will make your veins more prominent.

Stopping smoking will definately allow damaged veins to repain more quickly and new veins to grow more quickly.

I heard that if you really, really, really, want them to grow back, STOP SHOOTING DOPE!!

I've heard from people who used to use and were able to quit that over time and with lots of exercise their veins eventually came back. If nothing else, vigorous exercise will help your other veins pop out more. Though in order for them to start to come back, of course, you can't be continuing to poke them, lol. I haven't read anything scientifically to back this up, but have had two different former addicts who do the occasional dabble tell me this separately from each other, so I'd like to think there's some truth to it. Also, drinking lots of water and staying hydrated doesn't hurt either ;)
