Opioids How to tell when too much is too much?

It sounds like you had an interaction with something else, from your description of these "highs". If you were truly close to OD'ing, you aren't typically speaking & look quite BAD (worse than "looking drunk") .. & don't feel drunk. I don't know, were you perhaps taking anything else prior to the opiate on those occasions?

For me personally, I always enjoy a very heavy nod. Now this is very dangerous. I have overdosed one time and came close yet another time. I have never heard of anyone describe an opiate high like this, but I have experienced it twice on both occasions listed above. When I was so high, I felt like I was drunk. The room was spinning, my speech was heavily slurred, I couldn't walk straight, my memory was foggy, and I looked as if I was drunk. Now we know that opiate highs are very different from this. So, if you ever experience any of these symptoms, I would recommend having close supervision so the medics could be called if necessary. However, both times were the funnest opiate highs of my life, but I would NOT recommend trying to reach that level, because when I tried to reach it for the second time, I was unconscious for hours and I'm lucky to not have had to go to the hospital (I woke up without a Naloxone injection). Be careful, as you know opiates are very easy to OD on.

That's pretty extreme, but a tolerant person can stay awake and be high enough to act like a crazy person, although I never slur my words without also taking benzo's.

Same, even alcohol doesn't cause me to slur my words or blackout, but I detest the taste of alcohol so I probably have never pushed it that far. Benzos however are like potent alcohol in pill form without the feelings of wellbeing, and by the time you blackout it's way too late, and usually in that retarded state you end up taking more_

I find that nausea isn't a definite reliable sign that you're going to far. I guess it differs, but for me, the one time I came close to OD'ing (basically wobbling through the living room and passing out for short moments) I was not nauseous in the least. I did get it in the beginning but after a few months I feel my body has adapted to it. Might be different for other people though, but be careful regardless.

I get the well being from benzo's...
I love benzodiazepines, it's like alcohol in a pill form, but none of the toxicity or adverse effects, no hangover, the effects are semi-reversible at reasonable doses... And at unreasonable doses, you can fucking black out, with no consequences the next day!(Well, physical consequences; you might piss a lot of people off! I lost a significant other that way, actually...)

I used to be very careful.... Unsure what happened this time compared to every other time. Either way not a big fan of dying or landing in rehab. Either one would massively affect more than just my life. I do take benzos daily but rarely abuse. While taking opiates I would never abuse benzos or drink more than a beer or two during the evening. Like I said for being dangerous I try to be as safe as possible until this time around. Oh well live and learn.

I had a friend who puked as he was shooting up every time. It was the way his mind and body began to connect with the act of shooting up. SO I can say it is not reliable. However, a "funny" story: I had codeine on my list of "allergies" for years. After I became an addict, I thought "there is no way I am allergic to codeine" and started to think about where this came from. The "allergy" was that I had thrown up from the drug and as I really began to think I recalled when I heard a song on the radio- "Kyrie" by Mister Mister. It was the song that played as I was a teen puking. I recalled cuz I was high as a kite and I remember not being bothered by the puking at all. My parents had left the bottle of codeine in my room, and just wanting the coughing to stop, I just kept drinking more. No allergy. It was an overdose. Stupid parents. I think I was like 11 years old. I had that allergy taken off my records.

i dont even get high anymore. ill get the rush after shooting heroin, and a buzz for an hour, and re dosing is a waste/ you need to wait hours to feel effects, like a cigarette, u get a buzz if u go hours without one.the highest I get is where I am always thirsty and hungry, talkative. I had 4 grams of heroin, and kept redosing every few hours trying to catch a nod, it caught up to me. I passed out sitting up on the couch my dad woke me up, passed out again didn't remember in the morning when I woke up...but I don't get euphoic when I do opiates, a slight mood lift after the rush, I need to stop wasting dope and be happy im not sick. Methadone will get me high if I take enough with benzos ill nod..other than that. im burnt out
