how to reintroduce meat into one's diet

I've also heard that the average american eats way too much protein.

If Americans eat too much protein, it is only in the context of a diet which is already far too high in total calories.

In terms of macronutrient ratios, I am fairly sure that most Americans eat too high a percentage of carbohydrates.

exactly...this is how it seemed to me, at least.

Dietary science has failed to establish what our protein requirements are in any clear sense, but signs point towards this being the case.

Sorry to highjack the thread.. allow me to conclude.

My personal perspective towards reintroducing meat into a vegetarian diet is that I believe it is totally unnecessary. All of the vitamins and nutrients found in animal products are found in generous amounts among the vegan palate. Certain plants contain far more of vitamin X than any animal product, so if you're taking the time to choose an animal product, why not take the time to choose the the best option?

All of the common concerns regarding the vegetarian diet being adequately healthy are easily answered if you look hard enough. Iron? Calcium? Protein? No problem, there is more than one source for each, and to reiterate, the majority of the plants containing what you want have a greater amount of the substance than any animal product.
