How to recognize fellow psychonauts?

I think that the music that they listen to is the biggest indicator. How you would find that out though, may not be an easy task (outside of hearing them listening to it, or going to a concert for jam bands and such).

I'm curious as to what music you think would hint at that?

Because you might be on to something. ;)

^ Lotus is a good example. Pretty much everyone that listens to them is into psychedelics.

If you haven't heard of them, here's one of their songs.

Phish is another good example. I think that attract just as many psychonauts as stoners.

Music, movies, any (pop? counter?)culture consumption seems to help me get an idea, for sure, but I couldn't say "Oh if a person likes XXXXXband or XXXXXXXmovie the they are a tripper,' in the way I can say
"2 plus 2 equals 4".
For example, very many Tool fans seem to like the psychedelics (& their RC mates etc!) but over time more and more people who identify as Tool fans who are quite ignorant to the other side of things... it's a good question :)
I definitely do use questions and discussion about music, movies, art and stuff to gauge whether a person would at least be open to the topic or not, and then take it from there

That's a really hard question but I still have faith in this hypothesis.
So many different artists, songs and genres are spreading the message of psychospiritual truth; like fighting the industry-refined pop-culture bullshit containing messages of money, women and vanity with music containing a moral message of life.
Some hippy who listens to folk music and knows how to really listen and absorb the message of the song is no different from the punk rocker screaming against the societal system of elitism.

My point is, it doesn't matter what exactly they listen to, as long as they are really listening.
A little conversation and you can easily figure out whos 3rd eye is open...

Umm no? I didnt mean it as one genre i just kinda threw those in at the end. I was meaning like bands like emery, senses fail, silverstein, hawthorne heights, and saosin. I didnt really know what that fell under so i guessed ha sorry.

amazing choices, but not on hallucinogenics ahaha

I remember my Lsd days. I would come home filthy after a trip. I remember saying that this is how I would know if my kids ever were using this stuff...if they came home filthy dirty.

I prefer to run two instances of a music app, sync them together or offset just a bit so that the beats follow each other slightly, then blast that through headphones as you watch visualizations move to the music(s). The sync and the visuals drive me absolutely insane. Two hours later you "wake up" lol.

I know everyone will hate me for this, but happy hardcore FTW!!! :D

I'm sure they only try the RC's that no one else have heard off

Well most people know jack shit about drugs and I can't say I'd do many potentially dangerous RCs when so many "safer" alternatives exist that have been used for ages.

Tommyboy, you'd have to be high on psychedelics to enjoy Lotus. ;)

As far as recognizing psychonaughts... It is quite difficult unless they are decked out in 'typical' tripper clothing. We all know what I'm talking about. The best way that I have found is to straight out ask someone. Walking up to someone and asking about psychedelics usually renders the best results.

Usually I can tell who is a psychonaut by things they like on facebook (really it helps). Also someone who edits a lot of their photos in trippy colors ect. Then that gives me the idea on if they're into hallucinogenics and I talk to them..... Sometimes the person rarely uses drugs or I find someone who has dropped 60 or more times (seriously met some people who have).

Yeah, entheogenic adventurers are often very difficult to identify. I've met people who seem like total tight asses but are really massive psychonauts, and I've met people who are come across as space cadets yet are pretty damn straight. You just can't reliably tell from appearance. As previously mentioned, musical taste can be a decent indicator, but the only real way is to get to know them.

Personally though, I find the term 'psychonaut' to be a bit disturbing. It implies that pursuing chemically altered/enhanced states is ones entire purpose. I'd much rather achieve such states through natural means, but that's sure a lot of work!

Pretty easy... just nonchalantly say "I wonder what music looks like?" The ones that smirk are psychonauts...

^yeah. In my experience you can easily tell by talking to someone. I think most of us trippers just radiate a psychedelic energy that's easily identifiable.
