Opioids How to minimize Skin reactions caused by Opioid/Opiate-released Histamine?

Hello Folks,

i'm having some real problems taking Opioids/Opiates (in my Case O-Desmethyltramadol and Kratom).

I know itching and so is normal and can be minimized by taking some anti-histamines, but i'm also getting rashes, ie. mostly one or two pimples looking exactly like what you get if you're making an allergy test, when your body is reacting to the histamine on the skin.

Looks almost like a bee-sting and hurts badly.

Bought some special skin care which makes it a bit better or at least easier to "control", but all in all it's a bit shitty and i don't think i'm the only one on the planet with this problem, or am i???

It's really bad if i'm taking the O-DT (i suppose because it's much stronger than Kratom), even with Certirizin. With Kratom it's ok and i don't get skin reactions like with the O-DT, or at least not that bad, but only if i'm taking Certirizin with it.

My Question: does someone know about this and how can i counteract it? 2nd, what would you say is the best anti-histamine to take with Opioids/Opiates and when should i take it, before, with or after consuming?

Thanks a lot!

You might be allergic to opiates/opioids. I'm not sure how to counteract your reactions other than using the things you mentioned. Sorry, but I don't know what to tell you other than to stop taking opiates.

^ This. Most likely an allergic reaction so try taking a diphenhydramine (benadryl) about an hour before hand and see if it helps. If not then there's probably not a lot that can be done unless it's being caused by something else.

Oh and first gen anti-histamines like dph will potentiate the nod so take that into account if you try it.

Have you ever though about talking to a doctor about this OP? Might be a good idea. Sounds like it might be something more serious, or as tommy suggested. Certainly doesn't sound like fun regardless though. Good luck OP!

Is a 1st Gen Anti-Histamine stronger, or is it working better? I ordered some DPH (1st-) and Loratadin (-2nd Gen Anti-Histamine) to try those, because with Certirizin, which is a third Gen AH, it's better but not ok. So you say it's better to take it before taking the Opiate/Opioid? I'll try this, perhaps it works because i always took it some time after or closely to ingestion.

And no, i haven't spoken to a Doctor about this, since i'm sure it's related to the Histamine-releasing action of the Subtances i'm taking. I know my body is reacting a bit uber-sensitive to various things, so i think in this case it's the Histamine which is released in my body.

Oh Man, it's a pain in the ass to be me sometimes :sus:

But on the other Hand i think it's just my bodys way to teach me not the be too piggishly with drugs...

Ok, well then, got no more rashes or skin problems just by taking Cetirizine strictly before dosing Kratom/O-DT :) That's nice. Now my Tolerance skyrocketed so i've to take a somewhat longer break asap :(

Just wanna say if youre allergic the benadryl will only work for a bit before the allergy gets stronger and really fucks your shit up. Hence why if youre allergic to bees, that first sting is bad but not fatal, but every time after your allergic reaction gets stronger and stronger and stronger...

If its JUST a histamine reaction, and not an allergy (allergies cause histamine reactions but not all histamine reactions are allergies) then benadryl WILL help (for good) as well as possibly hydrocortisone cream. If you dont want a strong potentiation, and just removal of histamine reaction, XYZAL/ZYRTEC are the way to go.

Source: Seen an allergist for over 10 years, got allergy shots for near a decade. Horrible allergies. Xyzal (Levocetirizine, derived from...) followed by Zyrtec (Cetirizine) are MY OWN gold standards IMO for ACTUAL ALLERGY MANAGEMENT. They work the best, do not make you drowsy (Zyrtec can, but Xyzal is basically perfected zyrtec, crosses the BBB even less so, and has NEVER MADE ME DROWSY), almost 0 side effects. Benadryl has too many side effects, but that is also why it DOES potentiate opiates better.

Thanks for the info but i think Cetirizine is best atm since it has absolutely no side effects and i don't get those reactions like mentioned above. I don't think it's something like an allergy, because i can take Opiates/Opioids for some days without any problems, but then, woosh, the shit hits the fan.

I think my body reacts a bit too sensitive to histamine response, hence the rashes etc. I've also got some probs like that before without Opiates/Opioids, but it's getting worse if i take them.

If zyrtec works by all means keep using it. It worked for me but i found Xyzal even better. Its a newer zyrtec basically, also somehow cheaper with insurance vs OTC zyrtec now, its weird they bumped the price once they made it OTC.

I know about it, almost lost my nose on several occasions (jk), I dont get the bee sting things. #1 Use some other anti-histamine..like I use a drug store generic of an allergy medicine like ( I hope I can do this) Wal=phed or zyrtec take a couple. Benodryl just dries you up AND makes you sleepy!!! #2 Get this new product Cortisone 10 anti-itch lotion for hands and body. Do Not get the old cortisone creams...there are different kinds, my personal fav is Hydratensive Healing for sensitive skin. Slather that stuff on, because I read somewhere, that part of the intense itch is your nerve endings are dehydrated. Drink plenty h20. Then if you can do it w/o getting sleepy take a low dose benzo :) this is for the jumpy, nervous itchies. Best that i have and always open for new

Thanks for those further replies. I'll check that out and report back asap!

I was having almost the same exact reactions from my opiates, the would even swell my throat up. Benadryl really helped me out, best of luck

Anyone tried Orphenadrine to combat excessive histamine release? Heard it should be good, even taken on it's own. I've taken Cetirizine, Loratadine, DPH and Doxylamine liquid, depending on which opioid i use and at which time. In the evening i vastly prefer Doxylamine, even over DPH. At daytime i usually take Cetirizine or Loratadine, since they're not sedating.

Btw, seems like i really should try Levocetirizine sooner or later.

Shit i got this both times i did opiates but thought it was unrelated!

It seems when I use H i get what u guess you could describe as an inflamed "food pipe" and have difficulty performing that burp action that would bring up wind or swallow. It seems stuck somehow and I also get constant acid reflux (i think) and often taste vomit. I am never nauseous however.

Could this also be opiate histamine related?

Yea I get the same problem on MMT sometimes it's worse than others not sure why but I get red itchy blotches on my cheeks from the mad opiod rubs when it gets like that I take one of the new gen anti histamines non drowsy for work time or the old school drowsy ones like diph for help & potentiating the done. Sorry for rambling post but hope that helps some.

I get the whole benzo thing it works imo I find that when Iv'e been taking xanax for a week or so then stop my methadone itchies get really bad & I need to take an antihistamine & put cortizone cream on my face for maybe the next week till my body readjusts.

I also think 10mg of cetirizine taken once daily is the way to go, as its 2nd gen properties prevent clouding of the mind while taking care of your opioid "itchies."

Although I haven't tried Orphenadrine yet, I think the perfect anti-histamine dose for opiate dosing is 10mg cetirizine and 10mg hydroxyzine 30 min before dosing opioids (hydroxyzine is the parent compound of cetirizine, but it's a fantastic anxiety and OCD medication due to its ability to cross the BBB, unlike its metabolite, cetirizine).

I dislike DPH (benadryl), as it clouds up the nuances of the opioid high a bit too much. Doxylamine is better, but is too sedating, imo. Chlorpheneramine is also another way to go, since it only has 25% of the sedative action of DPH, iirc, without being ineffective as a CYP2D6 inhibitor.

Taking an antihistamine during the day helped get rid of all the nasty side effects that would sometimes come from a reaction to H. I would only really get the burning/pins and needles/skin reactions if I would do a big shot. I personally took cetirizine and liked it, as Ergic said it doesn't make you all foggy.

Thanks Guys :)

Got me some Orphenadrine and Hydroxyzine, next time i'm doing some opiate(s) i'm trying them out. Sounds like the hydroxyzine+cetirizine-combo is good. We'll see!
