I was fortunate to be introduced to this love in a relaxed environment and comfortable setting by an experienced friend who knew someone who knew someone etc. Life has shuffled me around quite a bit and I now find myself with few people to talk about things like this with. I have never really been into the club scene and would not know how to find a party with google maps and a sherpa guide. How does a fairly straight laced nearly middle aged person meet other like minded individuals?

You can try to go to meetups on rave websites, be prepared for a culture shock! You might not find many middle aged people in there, but I have seen lots of middle aged individuals at massives! (massives are large venus where raves are held). So maybe you can try going with your experienced friend and trying to find other middle aged people.

well, nearly middle aged LOL I am 34 currently. I do go to conventions (dragoncon rocks) so I am not too concerned with culture shock, but where do I find information on those kind of events?

For starters, you can try the North & South American Events Forum, right on Bluelight. :)

From there, there are a variety of places to look for event listings. Ravelinks is popular, for instance. If you live in southern California, there's the venerable SoCal Rave Calendar (text-only for that old-school charm).

Whatever you do, don't worry about going to a party without knowing anyone...of course, it's a good idea to come with some company, but even if you're alone you'll usually make friends very quickly. :)

and dude, i know plenty of people 34+ who go to parties...in fact, i prefer the ones where they are there to the ones with a bunch of kids...much more relaxed environment, more about the party, less about getting "fucked up"

my way of finding certain drugs in a new area is to find someone that smokes pot, because its the most used drug, and one can usually tell if someone is a smoker. and then going from there I'll tell a story that includes me taking xanax or something, and see if they say anything. or I'll just straight up ask them if they've ever tried such and such. ecstasy is an easy one, it doesn't have such a bad stigma amongst drug users. heroin is probably the hardest one, thats not something people come out and openly admit to, I know I dont with just anyone. but I was able to find a heroin hook-up here in arizona pretty quickly.

but other ecstasy users should be easy to find, its almost a socially acceptable pill. like I'm not embarrassed to tell my mom I like ecstasy that kind of stuff.

As the rave scene ages, so does the crowd. People between 30 and 40 are not at all uncommon in the rave scene. Original raves had plenty of getting "fucked up" and plenty of partying. There is a balance that is rare to find anymore. The older crowd that I'm technically a part of takes their EDM way too seriously, and the younger crowd gets way fucked up without even caring about anything else. The balance is forever lost and it won't come back until raves die out and go back underground or the next big thing comes along. IMO, it's a completely lost cause =P

Thanks so much for the incredibly helpful answers, I will look into these. To answer the location question I am currently in southwest Ga.
