So my mom starts showing me pictures of these necrotized feet and hands in a futile attempt to pull me away from iv drug use that has become a daily part of my life. She said it was from hitting an artery. I had a friend before tell me you'll know because it will hurt more. My veins are so Shot out that they tend to hurt a lot. So I was just wondering If there is any surefire way to know you have hit an artery and what are the dangers of shooting in an artery? Lately I have been hitting this really juicy guy I found in my inner right ankle just above the ball. I noticed today my whole leg and knee hurt I was thinking maybe this is an artery. Thanks ! By the way i'm new here this is my first post besides my introduction post.

Can't blame moms for trying to look out for you.

Most arteries are pretty damn deep, and usually require a longer needle to even access. That said....it'll burn like hot fire, if you do hit an artery. And the blood is frothy and bright red.

"IF ITS PINK STOP AND THINK, IF ITS RED GO AHEAD" thats an old junkie saying round my way....

You'll know if you're in an artery. The blood coming in when you register will have a lot more pressure and be lighter in colour. Also, if you then start to push down the plunger, it will burn like hell. Seriously-extreme pain, like a wave of fire rushing up your arm/leg/whatever. I only did this once but I will never forget it -my hand swelled up like a baseball glove and I had to go to the hospital.
