how to get mentally sharp

I completely agree!

Btw, eat lots of avocado, that's healthy!

eat lots of healthy food - nourishment improves brain function - eating protein is a key, as it provides fuel to the brain.

Epinephrine and dopamine levels dictate mental alertness. The amino acid, Tyrosine makes up these chemicals. Tyrosine needs to be replenished and this replenishment comes from protein.

Specifically talking about diet - check this link out: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=56583

Eat: Raw egg yolks (its delicious, and a real brain-food!) and raw fish (sushi, sashimi). Also, check out http://www.youngerthanyourage.com/13/zombie.htm You will discover that a lot of what we eat these days actually contains substances that acts as tranquillizers.

Sleepenough!

Learn! Check out books

Go for walks do not use you ipod while doing this, let you thoughts wander. Debetae with yourself!

Read and write! check out books on NLP, meditation, psychology etc.
Write poems! Write a story!

Good luck!

order the game set.

it's a card game that nearly any age can play and it's fun and challenging. you cna play alone or with others.

it made it onto mensa's top 10 list or something.

i just bought my second set.

and way to start picking up books again. i think that will be your biggest help.

listening to classical music has been shown to increase frontal and temporal lobe activity in the brain. both areas are considered to be the centers of higher cognition and thinking. repetitive, beat driven music like rap, most rock, and most electronic can decrease activity in these parts of the brain, having the effect of putting a person into a "trance".

imo, THE most important thing is deciding where to put your intent. if you decide that becoming happy and increasing your mental sharpness are extremely important and think about that every day, every hour....every minute, it will happen.

instead of telling yourself that you're depressed, think "i'm a person who is getting happier all of the time." even if your not convinced of this, keep "lying" to yourself. eventually you'll belive it and it will be true. What ever you intend to happen will happen. don't worry about failure, just focus on the goal with every ounce of your being and you'll be successful.

and breath deeply through your nose. humm to yourself. stretch your body. recognize yourself as universal being on planet earth.

peace

Hey, I like you!<3 <3 <3 <3

Postive thinking is also vastly overlooked.

Also as another person said earlier, wit cant be learned. Your've either witty or your not. Its a genetic factor and it helps if your Irish. Its sad to see people who think they are witty and funny, when they should just stick to what they know not what they think they know. No one just up and decides to be Witty. people decide to be happy and responsive keep it at that, its a big step in the right direction from almost going to neck your self.

Ginkgo Bilboa is also said to work well. Although, despite being eating tabs daily (of ginkgo, not acid, you fiends!), I haven't noticed a significant effect.

so if you are saying music like rap, trance, rock etc is bad for you mentally and you listen to it almost 24/7 its a bad thing?

it could well be why i feel so fcuked up

I cant handle silence it makes me crack up, yet when i was a kid i never listened to music and was happy

also i used to enjoy music alot now i just listen to it and feel no emotion just better than silence

bighooter is sounds like you could do with some cognitive behavioural therapy to help you think in a more positive way. ask your counselor about it.

i suggest learning some kind of philosophy, not the freud like type, though. i think going into learning about myself through NA program & learning kabbalah philosophy helped me to think deeper & to kinda look on things in a deeper way. again, for me.
i think the right antidepressant will do the job too & make you think clearer & get you sharper too.
otherwise just try to allways thing positive, & to be positive about everything. try to think that all what your'e going through, be it negative or positive things, that's all happens for good. that's your original you!
also drink green tea in the morning! :)

Meh...I do this, and I'm good at tricking people into thinking that I'm sharp. :)

This may have already been suggested, but take a GOOD multivitamin, and by good I mean one that is tested and certified for contents/dissolution so that you are actually getting what the label says.

I strongly recommend these :http://www.gnc.com/product/index.js...1776&ab=OAS_Vitamins:Bottom&parentPage=family

I would also recommend a liquid, sublingual vitamin B complex to take daily in the morning.

Since I have started the above regimen, I have noticed massive increase in energy and mental acuity as well. I am a student in a rigorous medical program and these vitamins have really been invaluable to me this past year.
