I'm so sorry Mugz, I know you closed this and with good reason but wanted to add a couple of tips as am v big on good chasing technique as an excellent form of harm reduction..
- Use a lighter on medium flame. Id it's too high you will burn your product, if too low it won't work.
- Keep the foil steady, tilted down away from you, and as you heat your substance it should slowly start to move down the foil - run the lighter along with it and tilt the foil more if it's not working.
-It helps if you fold a slight groove slone one long side of the foil - not too harsh a crease or your product will just spread out into the crease like a snake, but enough so it has an easy path to run down
- People often find it easier to start at the top right hand side of the foil and run to the bottom right hand side, thenturn the foil 90 degrees and run again around in a square. Once you get better you can zig zag or whatever but better to waste foil than your product!
-Better to chuck quite a lot on - might seem wasteful if you don't have the knack but it is much easier to run a decent amount then a small amount otherwhise it just frazzles
-If it gets "stuck", try tilting more and heating the foil just instead of it. If that fails, put the foil on a flat surface and clean it with some cloth incase there is a fingerprint or crease infront of your product.
- If all else fails you can pick up the beetle (if your product is h) and transfer it to a new bit of foil (once it has solidified of course!)
- Many people tend to hold the lighter as far away as possible to heat it so its liquid and run it but others when more experienced seem to find it easier heating it fast and running it quickly. The middle ground can often be your best bet, aiming not to leave huge black marks all over the foil but maybe making a few and keeping the product liquid. If in doubt, go for further away as it might not work hugely well but at least you won't burn your product. You could try slowly moving the lighter closer..
- Make sure your toot is the right size - wrapped round a biro or pencil works. If you want to be super fancy, fold over the corners of one side of the rectangle to make a point then roll it up. A cigarette paper around it helps. Keep the pointed side on top as you chase. The residue can collect there and you can smoke it again once you've used it a few times.
- Just remember - foil stays still, flame, product and toot move. Practice (especially with an experienced friend ) makes perfect! Good luck!
- Every time candles have been used it has not worked well. As others said, best to try to perfect this technique
Please pm me if you disagree with my tips or have more to add, not just for casual chat, this is an important HR thread
