How to avoid puking on DXM (cough syrup)

So I just chugged a bottle, and I felt inspiried to make a little guide on how to avoid puking after chugging cough syrup, since puking before you hit the desired plateau (3rd for me) will end your comeup and to some people (like me) waste your whole lean. This guide will make your chances of keeping it down better, but it will not prevent you from puking for sure.

You will Need:
Cough syrup (of course)
An antacid (alka-seltzer works best imo, tums dosen't work good at all, plain old baking soda helps a little)
Rubbing Alcohol (optional, questionable effectiveness)
Weed
Glass of water
Ginger root extract (optional. Ginger ale MIGHT work to some extent)

Disclaimer: Everything stated in this guide is from my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. These tips may be more/less/not at all effective for different people.

Step 1: Have an empty stomach. This not only prevents nausea, but it also helps the DXM absorb better.

Step 2: Now for the worst part, chugging the cough syrup. The best way to chug it varies from person to person. Some people like pinching their nose and chugging it all at once, some people like drinking it gradually. Personally, I like to take repetitive sips without stopping, drinking water in between. I find that if I do it slow, I get sick by the time half the bottle is down, but if I do it like this, my body has not "noticed" the cough syrup yet.

-TIP: When drinking the cough syrup, "push" while swallowing. It's kinda hard to explain, you have to "flex" the top part of your mouth when swallowing. This sort of makes the syrup "jump over" your taste buds. This is VERY effective in my experience, and minimized the nastiness two-fold.

Step 3: Drop the Seltzer in the water. Be ready to drink it immediatly. Prepare your weed, be ready to take a emergency hit if needed. Prepare the ginger extract or anything else you have in the "items needed list". (I'll explain the rubbing alcohol later)

Step 4: Now you have to wait. I find it best to try to get my mind on something else, if possible. Some people recommend eating something like a cracker if you feel the nausea coming up, but personally I find that eating anything makes it worse.

TIP- IF YOU HAVE TO BURP, as soon as you burp, exhale hard. DO NOT allow yourself to taste the nasty syrup, it WILL induce nausea.

Step 5: If you feel significant nausea, do the following:

1. start by sipping water before you use any of your anti-nausea tools

2. Sip the alka-seltzer water. You should feel the nausea supressed to some extent.

3. Eat some ginger root. I usually eat it straight, but you can prepare it however you want.

4. Now for the emergency anti-puke tools. This usually happens to me during the 2nd plateau, whereas the 1st plateau yields little to no nausea, for me anything. If you feel like nausea reaching alarming levels, do the following:

- Drink a lot of the alka-seltzer water and the ginger root extract
- if that dosen't help, sniff the rubbing alcohol (please don't go crazy and get high off it though, only a little whiff) this should suppress some nausea, this should also be used if you feel like your about to puke
- When you get that instinct that your gonna puke (NOT when you know it's coming!) take a giant hit of ganja, give it a min or two and your nausea should be suppressed.
-Drinking water always helps somewhat.



Follow these steps until you hit the magical 3rd plateau, where nausea is non existent.

i never puked on dxm itself or on cough syrup, no matter what dosage until i started smoking. had to puke nearly every time after that. wasnt too much of a problem for me tho.
i still ended up at the desired plateau if the dex already started to kick in.

i drink ginger tea before and after drinking the tea, and that seems to cut nausea a lot. also chewing gum seems to work
 
In my opinion is taking the robitussin pills. or generic. and if your like me and hate a problem with the additive in the gel capsules than eat a piece of bread ten munites later take 3 than 2-5 munites later take another 3 and so forth. While drinking sprite. i cant stand the syrup its fucking nasty
 
I wouldn't recommend people who are not heavily experienced both combine weed and dxm... especially if people get uncomfortably anxious or paranoid from both or either, the combination will likely exacerbate this.

  • Dosing nausea is mostly psychological. The most important thing is to get the taste of Robitussin/Zicam/whatever out of your mouth as soon as possible. Plenty of people have discovered "the perfect chaser" so it's up to you to find out what works for you. Generally very sugary drinks (such as powdered juice) help get the taste out . By powdered juice I mean the juice you get in a sachet and mix with water. These are almost entirely sugar.
  • Another useful technique is to dose in the kitchen (or anywhere you have running water) and immediately after dosing put your mouth under the tap and let water run over your tounge for minute or so.
  • Here are step by step instructions for dosing that I wrote up a while ago:
    1. Pinch nose and pour robo/whatever into a glass. Don't look it and definitely don't catch a whiff of it.

    2. With your nose tightly pinched start chugging from the glass. You get it down much faster than from a bottle. A variation on this which is easier for people who are sensitive to the taste is to fill your mouth with as much syrup as possible. It may sound bad but it's not the taste of it in your mouth that's the really bad part, it's the swallowing.

    3. Now here's what makes all the difference, once you get to the point where you can't drink anymore swallow your last mouthful but keep your throat closed! It's like an elongated gulp. This way you only get a portion of the horrible taste/feeling.

    4. Get a glass of whatever chaser you use (I use water and find it works well but that differs from person to person). Make sure your throat is still closed. Get the glass up to your lips and be ready to drink. Now let your throat muscle(s) relax (not sure which muscle it is) and immediately start drinking your chaser. Be warned, the worst part about drinking syrup is this part, it's hard to describe but once you try this method you'll know exactly what I mean.

    5. Rinse and repeat until all syrup is finished.

  • Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Dramamine (dimenhydrinate). Both are very effective in controlling nausea. They are sold as motion sickness remedies. Take a couple an hour before dosing and then another one just before you dose and you should be fine.
  • Ginger. Ginger is also effective and much easier to get than diph/dramamine. Absorption time will be different between brands (some come in gelcaps other as pills) so read the back of the packaging and there should be a section that reads "Take 30 minutes before traveling" or something along those lines.
  • Food. Eating a small meal (sandwich, crackers etc) an hour and a half before dosing helps some people. For others it makes them feel more sick. The only way to find out how you'll react is to try it.

  • Breathing. If you find that nausea is starting to creep in start breathing deeply. In through the nose and out through the mouth. Concentrate on your breathing.
  • Lying down. Lie down on a couch or bed but keep your head elevated slightly with a pillow. Combine this with deep breathing and you have your self a great nausea-killer.
  • Cannabis. Smoke a bowl once you feel the onset of nausea and it should help immensely.
  • Fresh air. Sitting outside and taking deep breathes is also very effective.

I live in Canada, ontario and what type of cough syrup would i specifially have to buy to feel it , and how much ddo i take im 115 pounds thnk you
 
I really have never experienced much nausea while on dxm, though I have felt generally dysphoric a few times. But, when actually drinking the syrup, I do feel like I might gag a bit. After the bottle is down, I feel more or less dandy. I always thought myself lucky for that.
 
might go w/o saying but make sure you are taking cough syrup or gel caps that contain ONLY DXM as the active ingredient. Other common actives include guaifenisen, acetaminophen, etc. Taking too much of these other substances can make you feel sick and nauseous.
