How to address rude minority coworkers?

You should talk to your management about it and say a lot of the other co-workers feel the same way. That her attitude, remarks, insults, screaming, yelling, whatever is creating a very hostile work environment for anything. Use those exact words, HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT. Say that she's not doing a good job with her tasks and maybe even suggestion extra supervision to to see what's really going on. In the end, companies don't want hostile work environments nor do they want a high turn-over rate due to one employee.

Agreed +1

a) her job is more important than yours, so... wtf? your opinion means nothing, no? not to be harsh but s'true. you're a minion, she's a CHEF right?
b)putting up with irritable chefs and bitchy bosses is part of working in restaurants. if you don't like it, don't work in 'em. I've worked in like 6 diff. restaurants of all kinds - always the same. regardless of race and sexual orientation, or even which region or country I was working in. that's why I'm going back to school :D

they help balance out the racist, bigotted right-wingers who just claim every issue is "political correctness gone mad" and ignore it?

also "there's" should be "there are" and 'perspective' is not a verb. perhaps you meant portray, depict, characterize, define or describe? maybe we can agree that we definitely need to improve education in this country :)

I make a whole slew of mistakes while posting in this forum. I make the "you're your" mistake all the time, I make typing errors...It's not that I don't know better and couldn't proof read what I've written and change it, I just view this as more of an informal kind of thing. So, I let a lot of the minor mistakes stay without editing them. Are you really judging people's intelligence, or lack thereof, based on things this minor?

^ our words here, as written, are all we have. i think what people write and how they choose to write it says a lot about who we 'really are' (whatever that means).

you think it's minor. i draw the line in a different place. i'm also not the one swearing at people and insulting them...

^I'm not necessarily taking sides in this particular argument, but yes, I find your opinion on typos and grammatical errors to be a little uptight...

Yeah, I forgot about this actually. I only worked in hospitality through uni and had some pretty tyrannical and aggressive chefs to work under. Some made my life pretty miserable at work now that I think about it. Maybe this is just a bad case of her being a chef and hating it, like most seem to!

that is an opinion to which you are entitled. if you find it annoying, you're free to ignore my posts.

You seem to be taking this more seriously than I had intended. I have no idea why you'd be so cold to me, who's never personally attacked you. It seems like you pride yourself on patience and fairness, maybe I'm wrong about that, IDK.

I was really just genuinely curious as to whether or not you just dismiss people as being uneducated and somehow inferior based on minor typos and grammatical errors. Maybe I'm putting words in your mouth, but you seem to at least notice and be bothered by these errors more than most people would be. I would infer from this that you're probably an educator of some sort or at least work in a field that involves writing or editing. Now that I think of it, I would say you may be an editor of some sort.

I wasn't trying to add fuel to the fire, or implicitly agreeing with the other people in this thread with whom you were arguing, it's just something I'd noticed was a pet-peeve of yours that you've mentioned in other threads as well.

I can be very harsh and vulgar in some of my posts. Sometimes I regret it, sometimes I don't, but that's just who I am. If it offends you, feel free to ignore it and I'll do the same. I don't find someone's posts in an mostly anonymous internet forum a good indicator of how they might be "in real life".

you asked me a question and i answered it. take my words at face value.

don't mistake brevity and matter-of-factness for rudeness. if you want to see rudeness, just scroll back in the thread - there are a number of people who can't seem to give an opinion without swearing or insulting :)

Op...the walk in cooler is your friend. Invite her in there right before she leaves ad give her the "we have to be in the trenches together, why not be civil? Talk" also ask her straight up if she has a problem with you.

I've been in restaurants for many years. If I have a problem...right to the walk in.

in the overly PC climate of the USA anytime you complain about someone who is a minority for whatever reason you are labeled a racist/bigot.

what nonsense.

if you call a white person who is rude, rude, that's not racist.
if you call a black person who is rude, rude, that's not racist.
if you call a latin person who is rude, rude, that's not racist.

if you have a rude co-worker and you can't deal with it and, when you describe her to somebody, you make specific mention of the fact that she's latina - when it has absolutely nothing to do with the situation - you might just be racist.

In the USA the bolded events are absolutely racist if you yourself are white. My suggestion to the OP is to find another co worker who is ethnic in origin to make a complaint.

it's the easiest thing in the world to paint everything with the "political correctness gone mad" brush and walk away, in an an attempt to divert attention real issues.

i reiterate that calling a lazy black person, lazy, is not racist, regardless of what color you (plural) are.

if you (or juno nightmare) disagree, i'll agree to disagree.

Yeah but you are arguing from an in theory standpoint. I have lived it growing up in southern corporate america and it is very real. I had a boss that was black as well as gay and terrible at his job and I personally knew the HR rep that told me time after time that he was virtually untouchable. Short of him stealing or murdering someone of course.

So it's been like 4 months. Did OP ignore the lady because she's an hispanic lesbian, or did he do something because she was an annoying person who happened to be an hispanic lesbian?

He should have found subtle ways of driving her nuts, then when she started bitching to the managers about him, he should have told them he had no idea what she was talking about. "Now not only is she rude constantly, she's making things up to try and get me fired!"
