How to address rude minority coworkers?

Do you live in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia or Wyoming? If so, you could inform your management that her sexual orientations constitute sufficient ground for her dismissal.

If you live anywhere else in the US, however, you should communicate your concerns to her directly in a professional and respectful manner. This is the expected protocol for these types of situations, at least in work environments that aren't still mired in the 1950's.

Lol.

I second the "kill her with kindness" thing. Try it once, a flower, a box of donuts, or even just offer to do a couple things that make her job easier. If she doesnt respond positively, leave an anonymous letter to the manager stating that your coworker is creating a hostile work environment, and that all but 1 other employee feel the same. If she really is a hardcore bitch, your coworkers will back it up. She probably just needs a stern warning from management.

Jesus christ alisdair how old are you? Hes a naive white kid who included "hispanic" in his threadtitle, he didnt pour gas on the Mexican flag and scream racial obscenities. I have hispanic blood myself, but I actually read his post and understood what the hell he was trying to say. Not get all pissy over something that hardly even qualifies as racism and post about it 15 times. Take issue with the blatant racial replies, dont get your panties in a bunch over perceived racism that doesnt even exist. Jeez some of the mods at this site have some real problems.

You should talk to your management about it and say a lot of the other co-workers feel the same way. That her attitude, remarks, insults, screaming, yelling, whatever is creating a very hostile work environment for anything. Use those exact words, HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT. Say that she's not doing a good job with her tasks and maybe even suggestion extra supervision to to see what's really going on. In the end, companies don't want hostile work environments nor do they want a high turn-over rate due to one employee.

Don't tell me to kill her with kindness by the way...
I second the "kill her with kindness" thing.
lol. nice advice.
If she doesnt respond positively, leave an anonymous letter to the manager stating that your coworker is creating a hostile work environment...
and how old are you? an anonymous note? that kind of stuff works great when you're 13...
...post about it 15 times.
i have 5 posts in the thread. when you need to exaggerate to make your point, it says everything about the fact that you have no point.
dont get your panties in a bunch
practice what you preach?
perceived racism that doesnt even exist.
you think it doesn't exist. i do. a difference of opinion! the sky is falling!
Jeez some of the mods at this site have some real problems.
stating an opinion is having "some real problems"? odd.

welcome to bluelight.

Which means if anyone should be taking offense at this, its people with hispanic blood. OP dates blacks and associates with them. Is a racist going to bang a bunch of black chicks and associate with black people? A black one, sure. He included hispanic lesbian as descriptors because these are definitely things that can affect the termination of an employee. He could have probably omitted her race and sitll get the point across, but he didnt use it in a dergotory way nor was he blatant.

It appears we have a bunch of indignant posters who saw red before they even finished his story and saw the point he was making, that was my own initial reaction until I saw where he was going. Now Im being accused of being racist and compared to George Zimmerman for pointing out what should be clear as day for anyone who possesses critical thinking skills and is reasonably logical. lol. Trivial shit like this isnt racism. Unwad em ladies.

Wow, dealing with the lowest common denominator here. This website is a trip.

Thanks for the welcome though alisdair =D

so why didn't he?

i'm not indignant, nor did i see red before i finished his story. since this thread started, i've read his op 5 or 10 times and i still feel the same way.

it's not possible for me to read his message and have a different perspective on the issue to you? just because i disagree with you i lack critical thinking skills and i'm illogical?

who's got their panties in a bunch?

Yeah, idk, I think "minorities" in general is an offensive word.

Where I live, whites and blacks are the "minorities". WE ALL ASIAN YO. And there is hella discrimination against whites and blacks. Well, blacks were given a a chance but then got 86ed from all the bars and started a crime scene. Like bitches, go yo asses back in the hood where you came from. How is trying to starting a new life here making our community worse? Then they invite all there friends because shits so easy here. We don't use/have guns. Sorry, /rant. And NOOOOO, I'm not generalizing to extending it to all african americans.

there's definitely some ultra-liberal douche-bags out there that will try to perspective everything they can into a municipal privileges issue...
they help balance out the racist, bigotted right-wingers who just claim every issue is "political correctness gone mad" and ignore it?

also "there's" should be "there are" and 'perspective' is not a verb. perhaps you meant portray, depict, characterize, define or describe? maybe we can agree that we definitely need to improve education in this country :)

What happened with the OP? I'd like to see how his work situation is turning out before this thread gets completely trashed...

Have some donuts bitch!:!

OP do you still work with her or does she still work there at the restaurant? I've had to work with assholes of all races, genders, and sex orientations and I just kept the mentality that it's a job, at least I don't have to live with them 24/7, I would do my work, not get confrontational, if they wound up having a temper tantrum it wasn't my fault or a reflection on me, and I realized that the managers/bosses did probably know about these people and their issues...especially if they were not doing their job, their share of the work, or were just total assholes to everyone else including co-workers and the public.

Yep still same shit different day. Still rude and still deliberately getting in my way and pissing me off. Not as bad as it used to be. I just wish she would work as a team player and help me instead of trying to piss me off because a kitchen is very much a team thing.

As most people pick up on I was trying to get tips on how to deal with rude coworkers. I'm not upset that she is latina or lesbian or anything else. Alsdairm I wish you would put as much effort into posting a helpful reply instead of proving your political correctness dick is the biggest. Regardless I don't want to argue. If you want to believe I'm a rascist you certainly can. I can't prove I'm not. I did suggest that minorities receive special treatment in certain cases. That actually happens quite often. Either you haven't experience enough of life, or you have chosen to see the world as the PC crowd would like you to see it. A kind of "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" thing except you've taken it so far that you actually believe he's wearing clothes.

I'm betting your the kind of guy that spends $20 on a pound of fair-trade coffee and feels like a good person but wouldn't even think to buy generic and donate 15$ to said country. Typical I'm-better-than-you-feel-good-bullshitism. You can feel great about yourself while doing nothing to solve the problem. In this case you spent lots of time calling me rascist instead of offering anecdotes and advice. That goes for the rest of you keep up the good work. The more people you call racist, the more "enlightened" you are.

Thank you. Its obvious that the problem is that she is rude. I only suggested that her ethnic status, gender, age and sexual orientation might make management more reluctant to deal with her. Which apparently means I'm for white brotherhood and have Hitler's speeches on my ipod. Fucking morons.

it's the easiest thing in the world to dismiss something you don't like or with which you disagree as "political correctness" to move past it.

i'm betting you would lose that bet. you seem to think you know an awful lot about me but your assumptions are, for the most part, incorrect. not a little unironic? :)

and $20 is ridiculous for a pound of coffee, fair trade or not :)

absolutely nobody here is saying that and, when you have to exaggerate to this extent to make your point, it says everything there is to say about your point.

when you explicitly seek opinions of those online and then swear at and insult those with whom you disagree, again, it hints at a lot of issues which inform the discussion in interesting ways.

Isn't the point that the OP is worried about the situation simply because he's aware that racism exists, that the person in question is a racial minority in his workplace, and he's actutely sensitive to the fact that these kind of complaints can be and sometimes are construed as racism if if this isn't even remotely a component. The fact is that many institutions and privately owned organisations do have quotas in their HR departments to do with race/religion/gender etc. and sometimes these are even legislated. I'm not all saying they aren't needed or useful - but please don't act like they aren't real and don't factor into the decisions of managers.

This is so patronising! Grammer is fluid and dynamic, especially in english. Everybody understood exactly what was meant. And anyway none of your suggestions fit particularly well. 'Distort' is probably the best substitute.

^ now who's patronising?

i know my comment might seem petty but, in context, in was specifically designed to highlight (the irony of) the poster's ignorance.

thanks for your comments.
