How permanent do u think opiate tolerance is?

When I was younger I used to occasionally take 400mg of codeine which equals 40mg of oxy according to the BL opiate conversion.

one of the first few times I tried oxy I got an 80mg OC. I hadnt had any opiates for about a year I think.
I started off with just chewing 1/3 of the tablet but ended up going through the whole tablet within a few hours.

the LD50 for oxy is suppose to be 50mg. Im just wondering why I didnt even throw up.

Maybe it's because I used to take codeine occasionally even though Id stopped about a year before.

Do u guys think that it's somewhat permanent?
how long do u guys think it takes before u loose half ya tolerance?
obviously it varies between ppl. Id guess at 3-6 months

for anyone who has taken a long break from opiates & started again
how long did u have a break from them?
what was ya dose before having the break?
how long did it take for ya to get to that dose?
what dose did ya require after having the break?
how long after the break did it take to get back to the tolerance u had before?

When I first tried codeine I took 60mg which gave me a mild but good effect.
I found out about splittable nurofen + tablets in australia after that & started taking 150mg after a few uses I went up to 300mg which i stayed on for a long time. (I did throw up one time when i had 2 doses in a day)
within a couple of months of originally having 60mg (which only had a mild effect) I was taking the ceiling dose with cwe because they took the splittable Nurofen + off the market.
I took that occasionally for a few years
I had a break for over a year I think & got prescribed panadeine forte. I decided to cwe them which was actually 600mg. It was probably the strongest effect id ever had from taking codeine. so obviously my tolerance had gone down.
I started occasionally taking 400mg again & tried low doses of oxy like 30mg which had a pretty good effect. tried tramadol, dhc too. I quit taking codeine again for about a year or so.
I got an 80mg OC which got me really high. I dunno if id lost any tolerance though.

so yeah. all i know is after quitting codeine for a year or whatever it was my tolerance went away. so i guess it can go away. but i dont understant why the oxy didnt make me sick.

9 months of abstinence (except for 8 mg of bupe which was used over a period of two months) has left me with a tolerance lower than when I stopped, but still above its starting point. I've heard it never goes back to zero (so to speak).

I've never found it goes back to the beginning, but it'll certainly be able to drop low enough where sniffing 5mg pure Hydrocodone (no APAP) got me a wonderful buzz for a couple hours, and then trailed off into a comfy bliss for a while after that.

I used to do 2-3 30's per day, now I stick to 7.5-15mg at a time / per day, and my tolerance is low, there's little "hangover" from it in the AM's, and it's a much less expensive habit for me these days.

It doesn't ever "go back to zero." It does get pretty goddamn low if you're abstaining though.

The probable reason the oxycodone didn't make you sick is because you didn't take it all at once, so your body had time to properly adjust to the drug. Just a guess though, really.

I don't know if it ever comes back to base levels before you started using, but I think in time it gets pretty close. I'm 10 years clean of a long term Heroin habit, never used Heroin or abused opiates of any kind since, not even once since my last, final detox, but have occasionally had to use Codeine purely for pain relief and I can certainly feel it. Dose of Codeine Phosphate around the 120-180mg mark taken over a shortish period for a dental abscess was enough to produce more than noticeable warm fuzzies, couple of drinks on top was enough to get a bit of a nicely chilled drift going.

I have a feeling though my brain still remembers only too well what to do with opiates given enough to play with, and suspect my tolerance would build really quickly with sustained use. Always been careful never to dose Codeine for more than 3 or 4 days at a time even when I've needed pain relief beyond what I'd get from non-opiates. I think even after all this time physical dependency would re-establish itself way faster than it did in the beginning when I first started out with H. Days rather than weeks. I'm not inclined to put that to the test anyways.

Pretty much spot on. If you go right back to consecutive daily dosages, tolerance will rapidly build.
