How old must you be to buy co-codamol over the counter in the uk

I am looking to try codeine for the first time as soon as I can but am unsure on the UK's laws of over the counter sale of Co-codamol, as this seems to be the easiest way to get some.
I have already done my research on how to do a cold water extraction and an approximate dosage for my first time using and have considered trying it for a few weeks. Eventually I decided that I would but now I need to know if I'm even able to get any without having to ask an older friend.

Just order a bottle of codeine linctus from one of the online pharmacies. 600mg per bottle and no hepatoxic paracetamol to remove.

In the interests of HR, it would be remiss of me not to warn you of the addiction potential. Some people get on really well with codeine, myself included. :/

I know this is one of those weird little quirks of the no sourcing rule that many find a bit stupid but the fact remains we are not allowed to name any pharmacy in relation to sales of co-codamol (or related items). Sourcery is sourcery whether legal or not - even when it does seem a bit odd.

I always thought it was 18 in person at pharmacies but may just be down to the discretion of the individual pharmacist. Online you just need an account with them but we obviously can't go into any detail on that either for the same reason.

Pharmacy staff are getting clued up on the abuse potential of codeine these days, so regardless of age, if they suspect you may be a drug seeker you ain't getting served. But generally, the older you are the better. Be prepared to 'expect the Spanish Inquisition'. They will ask the following questions at the very least: 'Are they for yourself?', 'Have you had them before?', 'What symptoms do you have and for how long?'. Obviously there are certain 'correct' answers to these, but I don't think I'm allowed to go into them here.

Is 16 as far as I'm aware, I've been asked my age a few times and in one case ID'd and it's always been 16. Think it says it on the back of the packs and all. Linctus is probably the best bet if you don't mind paying postage and if you're like me and liable to fuck up your first hundred or so CWEs

Not round here they aren't. The most I get is "have your had them before?", "are you on any other medication?" then "no more than three days use" as they scan and bag them.

I am restricted to one particular chain of pharmacies though, as they're the only ones that sell aspirin and codeine tablets in a little tub. Doesn't help that I seem to be the only person who ever buys them:

"ASPIRIN and codeine?! I don't think we sell those love" *rummage, rummage, rummage* "oh yes, aspirin and codeine tablets (sounding surprised)! "have you had them before?", etc...

Makes it difficult to return to the same shop without being quickly identified as a serial codeine purchaser. Luckily, there are at least 10 stores in my city, so I can at least rotate between them.
