Depends on the dosage, but 4 advil at a time is not dangerous in any case. You can also take it every 4 hours but I wouldn't take more than two every four hours.

My doc recommended three of them 3X a day for a few days in a row to get chronic pain/inflammation under control. I don't know what your insurance situation is like, but if you can get a script for Celebrex that would be a lot easier on your stomach. Too much advil inhibits an enzyme (COX1) which makes the mucus that lines your stomach and prevents stomach acid from irritating your GI tract.
