Opioids How much Tramadol can you take without risking serotonin syndrome?

My doc prescribed me a whopping 120 50mg tramadol which is greatly appreciated because I'm withdrawing from oxycodone. It's helped a ton with withdrawals and I haven't been taking that much but over the course of the day I took 6 pills, so 300mg. I also take a small dose of the antidepressant remeron. How much tramadol is safe for me to take in one day?
 
Dude, do the math. 4 pills a day times 30 days equals 120 pills total. You are prescribed 200mg Tramadol a day. You really don't want to mess with doses. Stick with your 4 pills/200mg a day. If you take as prescribed, you'll be fine.
 
Are you prescribed Remeron ? I wouldn't take that unless prescribed. That may cause an issue. You will get enough of a mood lift from the Tramadol.
Remember, stick with the tramadol as prescribed, and you'll be fine. Any concerns with a pretty normal dose, (200mg) you should call your doctor.

The max for tramadol is 400mg a day but that is more because of seizure risk than SS. It is exceedingly rare to get SS from one agent unless you totally exceed normal doses. But as stated, take what your doctor prescribed and call him if you have issues.
 
Yeah, it's EXTREMELY rare to get serotonin syndrome, especially when not on an SSRI (as remeron is not an SSRI).

Sezuire risk starts to climb the higher the dosages. That's your only real concern here, as serotonin syndrome odds of happening are extremely low (unless you take something crazy like 2000mg of tramadol at one time, then that's a different story -- but even then you'd be more likely to have a sezuire not serotonin overload). Some have taken tramadol and had seizures taking 400mg, at once, while others have taken 500mg at once and had no sezuires. It varies person to person but that's the biggest problem here is how tramadol lowers your seizure threshold.
