divide by 7 to figure out in work days means:
rostered days off = 2.4 days (got one due in a couple of weeks)
annual leave = 21.923 days
sick days = 23.28 days

i'm also more than 20% of the way to getting 3 months long service leave. LONG way to go for that one.

and when my kid comes next year that would be anextra 6 weeks paid paternity leave.


at my last job, i took sickies all the time. i didn't like my job so took them as they accrued. lucky i never actually got badly injured or sick. wised up now and am seldomly using personal leave. can't afford to be undisciplined with a mortgage and all.

so how are your accruals?
 
i teach. we start the year off in aug with 5 personal days, i have used 4 of mine so far.

but i am also off when the students are off... 1 week for thanksgiving, 2 weeks around christmas, a week in the spring and a good bit of the summer plus random long weekends. while i like having lots of breaks, its somewhat annoying that i can't just take a vacation whenever i want.
 
Paid leave? lol wtf is that?

Forgive me. I've never in my life had a job that offered paid vacations or even sick days so the concept always amazes me. Must be cool. Enjoy!

I'm really fortunate - I'm currently off work on sick leave for a really nice company who is continuing to pay me for several weeks off, despite only being with them 3 months (I've just had a neurosurgical operation that came out of the blue, so pretty major).

I have 1 weeks' annual leave accrued - most perm full time employees get 4 weeks annually in Australia. Additionally, we get 10 personal leave (i.e sick or carers leave) days a year. We also can get up to 2 days paid compassionate leave per occasion for life threatening illnesses or deaths of close family members (/shudders).

good stuff man^, especially in your dangerous line of work. hopefully you never need it, but it is good that you have it just in case.

a_c, doesn't your balance accrue if unused?

if i didn't take a holiday once every couple of years, i'd go batshit crazy. i use my head a lot.
 
^no, my personal days expire at the end of the contract. each contract is a year contract. i teach at a private school, i am not sure if public schools work differently. come late may, the school is filled with substitute teachers while everyone uses up their personal days.
 
I've got about 65 hours of vacation, maybe 6 of sick leave.
I get 1 personal holiday each fiscal year.
Paid holidays.

I probably won't take all that vacation in one chunk, ever. I'm never gone for that long. I don't even know where I'd go.
My schedule is pretty sweet though. I never work more than 2 days in a row (I work 4 days a week). So it always feels like I'm on some sort of vacation where I happen to pop into work and do stuff for a while. It really helps that I love my job too.
 
34.75 hours (just had to go look that up)...too bad that only works out to be not even 3 days' work for me. Ah well. And I am oh-so overdue for a vacay. I'm craving turquoise waters, white sand beaches, and pina coladas.

I accrue 7 hours of PL time per 2 weeks. But, that PL time is my sick time, as well. All lumped into one. Dunno how I feel about that.

Other countries seem to way cooler about vacation time.
 
I get 4 weeks paid leave (20 work days) and currently have 1.44 hours. I just took off 3.5 weeks for my wedding and honeymoon (2.5 weeks in Thailand). I had to take 4 days as leave without pay (which we'd budgeted for months ago - we forecast our budget as far forward as possible, with contingencies in place - we also took a trip to New Zealand earlier in the year to visit family and take a road trip around the North Island), and didn't want to go into the red with annual leave (i'd rather keep accruing it from now). I'll be working 2 days over the xmas period, then taking NYE off, then no leave until early Feb when we're heading to the coast for an extra long weekend of beach time. After that, i'm not taking any leave as i hope to be pregnant next year, and can double my annual leave at 1/2 pay, which will be handy on top of the 14 weeks paid maternity leave we get (which can also be doubled at 1/2 pay). :)
