Opioids how much methadone to take?

okay, so i've browsed the site (as well as some others) and can't really get a tailored answer to the question. i'm not very sensitive to opiates, have a very high tolerance. i typically take anywhere from 120-150 mgs oxycodone, was doing loads of fentanyl a while back. i ran across some 10 mg methadone pills and was wondering what i should start off with. i was thinking 30mg, but encountered some hesitation when i asked a friend. so, i took 2 and am considering taking another in a couple of hours. anything i should be aware of before doing that?
 
You could start out with 30mg, but bear in mind that methadone is very long acting, so it will take a very long time (up to like an hour and a half or more) to start feeling the effects of the medication...So don't take 30mg and 20 minutes later decide its not working and take another 30 because you could end up dead. Seeing as you have a fair tolerance, I agree with stuckinaloop that you could probably get by safely taking 40mg. I miss the old 40mg wafers...
 
i've taken 30 mgs thus far and probably won't do any more today. i feel little to nothing, but know it can be tricky. definately not my thing, but it's all i have for now. at least i won't be sick for the next couple of days, but i hear WD's from methadone can be absolute hell.
 
I'd say don't mess with methadone. Leave it for when you 'need it'. I use it when I want to 'get back to square one'...maintain a decent state of life and stop popping oxys like a lunatic. Just to stop the sweating/the madness/etc.

However, to answer your q: 30mg should be fine if you DO truly have that high a tolerance (over 100mg oxy). As it does take at least a couple hours to kick in, I'd say wait about 3.5 hours to redose. Or, don't ! Just find something else.
 
It depends if your trying to get high or trying to be stable (no withdrawals). I don't really suggest getting high on dones cuz it can be dangerous, a lot of people OD from redosing and what not. What you should do is start with 2 or 3 (20-30mg) and see if that will hold you. I usually only dose once a day with dones, and it can take up to 3 hours for you to fully feel the effects of the dose. Just start low, its pretty strong stuff.
 
Somebody with no tolerance- what's a decent dose(AKA, not kill me but make me feel nice all day!) of methadone? Haven't done any opiate/opioid in a while now.
 
I would take 20-30mg to start then wait and see how long that helps you. When I took methadone I dosed 2 or 3 and sometimes even 4 times a day, it never held me over as long as it does some. I think you are going to have to experiement and figure out yourself. I think 20mg's is an ok start, see how you feel, you'll be able to tell if you can or should take more next time or later on.
 
He said that 30mg did little to nothing. The reason why is because you have a very high tolerance to opioids. 150mg OxyContin daily was almost as much as I was doing (160mg OxyContin + 4 bags H) before going onto Methadone Maintenance. If I remember correctly 30mg was the starting dose administered.

At your tolerance its possible you may need 40-50mg. Don't re-dose or take it within 24 hours of your last dose of 30mg because Methadone lasts nearly all day.
 
Somebody with a high tolerance won't really get high from methadone, more or less it will just keep them well.

you can def get high from methadone even with a high tolerance to opiates.

hell i can get high from methadone and I am on methadone maintenance, all you gotto do is take more, there is no ceiling

im on 80mg right now...if I take even 40mg more I feel a nice high and if I double it I am nodding the day away.
 
i took 40 mg the first day...i don't really like high, though...not compared to oxycodone. it was nice that it lasted a strong 8 hours, though.

First off, remember that Methadone comes on very slowly. Sometimes it takes up to 2 hours for it to peak, so give it some time.

That being said, 30mg probably isn't enough for you. Based on what you said about your tolerance, I would guess about 50 to 70mg would be enough. Start with 50mg and if that isn't enough, increase by 10mg until what you get to where you want.

With no opiate tolerance I got completely tore up when I took 10mg's of methadone one night. High as a kite, puked when I got home. However when I had a 300mg+ OC tolerance I never got high from it. It did a good job of stopping cravings and WD, would start wearing off at around six hours, but I never really got high. Would have probably took an unbelievably high dose I guess.
