How many people have shot into an artery by accident?

How many people here have done this? I did this accidentally with a shot of heroin that I had heated to dissolve. Initially I thought it was because of heating it, when I felt the burn permeate from my elbow all the way down to my fingers. After the awful pain went away and I thought about it, I realized that since the pain was travelling down my arm that I must have hit an artery.
This was with a 5/8" 31g half-cc syringe.
My other question is this: Could the shot into an artery be responsible for the numbness I've felt in my pinky and ring-finger on the hand of the arm I shot into since then? It's a subtle but constant lack of sensation.

Have shot heroin (a few times - extremely painful), crack (a coupla times - no pain) and ketamine (once - also painless) into arteries before. Never deliberately of course... but in less experienced and more ignorant days... or when so fucked I just got dangerously sloppy :\

None were in the least bit pleasant but the ket was the only one I had to go to hospital for. No lasting effects from any of them thankfully.

I've shot in arteries...Damn scary the first time it happened too....I did'nt know what to think...Just hurt and my whole arm swelled...I always have the fear I'll do it again.....after it went away...no lasting effects fer me....But in yer case who knows ..maybe,,if you've lost sensation in yer hand and before that, u had it.... could be the reason

this fascinates and scares me - I shot meth for the better part of a year (years ago) and had no idea about this!!!

Now that I've read in this thread and some others what it's like when you hit one, I'm pretty sure I hit one once. It was on my hand/wrist area. I did a shot of heroin and instantly it burned so bad and my entire hand swelled up and felt like 10,000 pins and needles where in my hand and wrist. I thought I was overdosing or something and the dope was a bad batch or it was cut with something bad, I had 911 dialed on my cellphone prepared to press the send button if I was gonna pass out. But I got through it after a couple minutes and that was it.

It definitely is not fun... :(

It happens. I've done it a couple times.

You have to be careful. If you know what you're doing, it is pretty easy to avoid doing because there are many signs. But still, sometimes shit just happens.

Accidentally tagging an artery is just one of many complications that can result from IV drug use.

this guy shot meth into the artery in his right elbow, but was so inexperienced thought it just hurt that bad sometimes. Kinda freaky when the blood pulses into the syringe.

It can clog the capillaries downstream and lead to gangrene. Your stories all have oddly positive outcomes. I think shooting pills is the most likely way of getting gangrene if you hit an artery, unless it's .2 micron filtered of course.

not quite sure what i did wrong exactly, but after having people bang for me this one time i tried it myself, alone. i passed out, when i woke up both my arms and hands from about 4 inches above my wrist were paralyzed. my left hand and arm went back to normal, but my right hand was like that for about 5 months. i tried injecting into my left arm so that was weird. but ive also have the same thing happen to my left hand after passing out in my computer chair. a nerve in my left arm got pinched, and again... 5 months with a paralyzed hand... after about 2-3 im able to life my fingers, 4 months i can sort of move my wrist, 5 months i can move them all. it took longer to get full mobility back in my right hand. my left tho... its been 9 months and its about 50% weaker, but i can use it normally, without the same strength as it used to have tho

Yes, about three nights ago. The pain was unreal...I never felt that before, and I"ve done this many times.

My hand felt like it was in a pot of boiling water, except you can't take your hand out, because it's not really in hot water. When I opened my hand, I got the sensation that hot water or hot blood dropped out of it. I literally looked at my pant leg, thinking it was covered in blood...

After the sensation of the extreme heat stopped, PAINFUL itching...that went to my hands, and the hollow in my neck...also something I have never felt. It really really hurt.

DuckEcho...that wasn't from the dope. It was from lying on your arms...I've been through it numerous times and it is absolutely horrible.

My hand was dead....it's happened in both hands...literally no strength in my wrist...my hand just was hanging. I couldn't even pick up a cup or glass...let alone do my makeup or put a rubberband in my hair. I got a hand brace to hold my wrist straight. It lasts as long as it last.s

The reason I know this, is because my neurologist told me....It happens. He explained, it's like when a guy puts his arm around a girl in a movie theatre, and has his arm stretched for a long time. I forget the name of the condition...but I hate it.

You may have pierced the nerve.

I thought about that...the pain was ungodly. My face was covered in sweat...the only thing is that the blood looked bright red, instead of dark. Damn did that hurt...and my hand swelled up. It's gone down. I hope to never do that again.

done it a few times in my arm (one time leading to cellulitis that required I&D and 5 months in the hospital after really gross surgery), but managed to hit femoral vein successfully... gonna shoot up, stuff like that will happen.

Unfortunately i have, in my right wrist, homemade methadone at that, crystallized almost instantly. had 5 fasciotomys (sp?), was told id never move it and probably lose it eventually, and even after shooting up in my open wounds i fully regained movement in about 6 months, almost all feeling. But when it gets cold i cant feel it or move it for shit.
