How many molecules of drug in a given weight?

So, lets take LSD for example. Is there any way of calculating the number of LSD molecules in exactly, say 1 ug of LSD? I weight out weights of this drug (at work) as low as 15 ug on occasion and often wonder how many molecules of drug that mass actually contains.

Any ideas?

Most certainly!

Here we must resurrect Mr Avogadro and his Avogadro number

The avogadro number corresponds to the number of molecules or atoms (if monoatomic) needed to make a quantity equal of that of the molecular (or atomic) mass in grams.

It is connected, the basis so to speak, of the definition of Mole, the chemical metric unit.

If you want me to expand more on it,please say so. Practically, yes it can be done and it is done.

(Oh,fixingahole got me to it, delete my answer if redundant)

Why is it sad to recall that from memory? It's like basic highschool chemistry isn't it?

rather sad that I can recall that from memory

Not really. I think it's sadder that I found it eerily familiar, and I am on the opposite end from "hard" science. I think it just indicates that you are a tad geeky.

HOLY MOTHER OF DOG SHIT
Somebody can use exponents, something taught to 12 year olds in school, THEY MUST BE A TAD BIT GEEKY

#mcgs LSD X (1mol LSD/Mass of LSD)X(6.022X10^23molecules LSD/1mol LSD) = Molecules LSD

i think that is how you would go about calculating that. correct me if im wrong

Apparently you're too stoned from eating your Little Debbies, or to dense to read, but "Geeky" had nothing to do with exponents, it had to do with the memorization of Avogadro's Constant.

Careful, I hear those things kill brain cells and excessive use can lead to stroke.

Does it not take a simple 12 year old's mathematical capacity to comprehend the "oh so complex" Avogadro's Constant?

And are you done with the condescending remarks towards a topic (in case you were too stupid to comprehend) wasn't meant to be taken seriously in the first place?
Maybe you should just keep typing your seemingly witty insults, if it really amuses yourself that much

It's (weight in grams/relative molecular mass) x 6.02 x 10^23 molecules - that's for any compound so to work out the number of molecules in say a 100ug dose of LSD it's:

(0.0001/323.43) x 6.02 x 10^23

(somebody else can work that out as I can't find my calculator and am too fucked to use long division/multiplication)

While having memorized Avogadro's number makes F and B a tad geeky, devoting this much time to trolling ADD makes you a certified dork. ;)

Yes, and he apologised.

It's 10 o'clock, do you know where your children are?
