How many meals do you have a day?

I weight train so I try to eat every 2 to 3 hours and get a gram of protein per pound of body weight. It's actually pretty fucking hard with school and work.

I'm a pretty dedicated weight trainer and found that 4-5 meals a day keeps my energy levels up to my particular liking. Always good sources of carbs, fats, and protein.

Right now bout 5 to 6. Small protein packed meals and I count a protein shake as a meal. Ideally I would like to go up to 8 meals a day. Food every 2 hours and 8 hours of sleep wood be perfect.

My metabolism works very quickly so 3 meals just doesn't provide me with enough energy to pull through the day. On average I am consuming 6-7 meals throughout the day and night which on average totals to 3000-4000 calories per day. If I delay or miss a meal there is a almost immediate onset of fatigue which is eventually followed by exhaustion. It's a hassle eating so much but I remember when I used to eat 3 meals a day and feeling completely tired and lethargic all day and night, never again.

This ^^.

The hobbits have it figured out, i can't go without my 2nd breakfast, or supper (meal between lunch/dinner).

I put 6+. I don't know if I would call most of what I eat 'meals'. I would say I eat ~6 big snacks throughout the day. I like to eat every few hours but not a huge meal :) That's just how I feel the best throughout the day. I almost always have some kind of healthy snack in my bag with me wherever I go, because I don't like to get to the point where I'm starving and will eat anything.

I eat a couple major meals with many small meals in between. My metabolism is fast.

many? Constantly?! If your metabolisms are fast (so is mine, irregular too), why not cut the snacking down - it takes a little to get used to to start with, but it's the best way - honestly, your metabolism will balance out a bit fairly quickly(a few weeks), and you will realize you don't need to eat so much - just change how you're eating (food combining is KEY if your metabolism is fast/irregular, I'd say it's key in general, but if you've always found it hard to put on weight then knowledge of, and dogmatically sticking to, trophology will sort your problems right out) and eating less meals, prepared properly will get you putting on weight, burning off fat naturally with minimal exercise needed, and generally leave you feeling more alert - I'd only suggest eating every 2 hours if you were ill with AIDS or something like this where it's hard to eat.

Do you feel hungry every 2 hours? honestly this is excessive.

Well I eat very small meals like a sandwich (wheat bread one cheese and 2 slices of turkey w mustard) is a meal for me. So I'm kinda hungry all the time. With this I speed up metabolism ya know. Instead of eating one 800 calorie meal ill split that into 2 400 calorie meals. And I watch my nutrition very carefully. I count calories carbs protein fiber most of the important stuff. I'm starting a cycle next month so when working out nutrition is 90% of the battle and small meals spaced out every few hours is best.

Who the fuck eats one meal a day?

This is harm reduction anyways , isn't it?
Whoever put 1-2 meals a day on the poll really needs to re-evaluate the research/statistics showing that if you eat more you your metabolic rate is higher.

Your body goes into starvation mode if you eat less than every 4 hours. You gotta keep rev starting your metabolism.

And guys EAT BREAKFAST within the first hour you wake up! You need the energy, and it really jump starts your metabolism for the rest of the day, so you can continue throughout your day eating smaller and smaller meals until bed :)

Oh yea, I eat 6+ meals a day and I weigh 155, 5'10 feet tall. And I'm also not one of those freaks who can eat McDonalds for every meal and still manage to look better every time you see them

Excuse me, I'm not advocating anything by offering various options in the poll - I'm simply providing space for everyone to accurately report the amount of meals they're eating each day. No value is put against any particular answer. :\

Sometimes, this person eats once a day. When you eat things that satisfy your hunger, sometimes, you don't get hungry the rest of the day.

You need sources to justify one or two meals a day being harmful for your health.

Is having a slower metabolism REALLY a bad thing? Survival of the fittest says the people with fast metabolisms will perish first if there is little food. Not to mention, why do we NEED to eat many times a day? Other than the age old "faster metabolism" argument...

Eating iirc, moves a large volume of your body's blood/energy usage to digestion. Eating multiple smaller portions helps me feel more balanced in that regard. 3-4 large meals leaves me lethargic and tired ~1hr after eating. Its not fun at all if i'm returning to work after a big lunch. Smaller portions, stretched out feels healthier for my body, but we all have such different biochemistry, trying to rationalize the eating habits of others, unless your a dietician/MD seems rather condescending imho.

breakfast: bran cereal + almond milk
mid morning snack: almonds
lunch: PB&J on rye
dinner: pita + hummus / salad / rice&beans
seconds of dinner / desert (yogurt&hemp&granola)

There's not an option that fits me. I don't really eat a certain amount of mails a day. I just eat when I'm hungry.

You're right. Everyone is different. And from a logical standpoint, you can rationalize anything. You don't have to be a professional to give a rationalization. Professionals have more background knowledge, but it doesn't mean they're the only ones with a good answer.

Thanks.

Yeah dude it is harm reduction - 1 meal a day is not healthy - but it is what animals do, if they have no idea when they will eat their next meal - wolf down as much as they can, nap a lot, and hope next day is better hunting.

I totally concur your body goes into starvation mode after 4 hours and our metabolisms generally need revving a few times throughout the day (except for those people who find their bowel movements to be fast and loose - excessive fire), but I do not agree everyone needs breakfast - skipping breakfast is ideal fasting period to clear your GI tract of undigested food from the night before, and going all the way through to lunch without having anything more than hot drinks and possibly a jug of juice is THE way to do this efficiently.

6 meals a day is excessive, I think you would do better with 4.

Having a slow metabolism isn't bad, you just need to exercise harder, and eat less often than us quicker people.

Having any less than 2 meals a day is harmful to your health however, no sources need - common sense - one meal per day,as I stated above, is a fair universal maxim for hunter animals, not humans, or even pets.

I eat 6 or more. I try to eat every three hours. Not because I can but because I get hungry.

I just eat whenever I'm hungry, but it can range from 3 to 6 meals a day, sometimes big but mostly medium to small. I'm trying to even out my eating schedule to five small ones a day and add in more protein and vegetables. Less carbs too :)

I eat 6-7 small meals a day every three hours if i can; but i have an extremely high metabolism and my work involves manual labor, so i burn through carbs like nothing, plus working out every second day. If i eat any less i begin to lose weight, and im trying to maintain a steady level for my height and build.
