I have been beaten by the police several times....I was a protester at most of the major ones in the US since 1999. I even saw the cops shoot out a 11 year old girls eyeball with a plastic bullet by shooting it directly into her face at nearly point blank range...at a police brutality protest! And then they would not allow the ambulance to enter the area where they surrounded us to save her eyeball and just kept her there for hours letting her bleed.

In Juvinile Hall in LA I saw the cops beat a pregnant teenager until she had a miscarriage because she refused to take her psyche meds...they were laughing about it.

Not beaten exactly... but I've been bruised and hurt. I once punched an officer in the face and within seconds I was knocked to the ground with several others on top of me, cuffing me tightly (my wrists were swollen for days they were so tight) and putting plastic ties around my ankles, before carrying me kicking and screaming into the back of a patrol car. The whole time they were saying "stop resisting or you'll get hurt", so I guess I'm lucky I didn't get sprayed or tazered.

I've been hit by cops a few times, although I don't know if I would go so far as to say I was 'beaten'. However I was handcuffed and punched several times.

*Edit-

Umm, "good" is certainly one of many things we do not have in America :\

was smacked around once and pulled out of the car and cuffed by the side of the road while they searched my car ... they didn't find anything fortunately, so I was let go with a stern warning that they didn't like long haired hippie types such as myself in "their" town ... but I probably brought that on myself ... I was young, dumb, and spouting some "I know my rights" type stuff ... lol ... at the end of the day it was an entertaining spectacle and thing to tell about later ... I'm lucky they didn't plant some shit on me, though, in retrospect ... but I was able to go home at the end of the night with nothing lost but time and perhaps a little bit of dignity.

I got my had slammed into the wall of the precinct. The detective said "opps, the wall must have moved'...... Then the commissioner came into the interrogation room while I was cuffed to the wall. He said if I continued acting up that I would have both arms cuffed to the walls, and he would turn a blind eye to what happened after that.... All that happened before that was getting a chair slammed on my face.

I cant see which one of my fellow mods shut this down, but Ima re open it.

I dont agree that this only relates to criminals, here is the explanation so that u can understand why I open this up again.

Being a drug user, especially when you are coppin your shit in areas where there is alot of crime and a lot of shady cops, you are always exposed to the possibility of this shit.

It aint about criminal culture. It is about drug culture becuz every one of us by doin somethin that breaks the law by doin drugs, is at risk of the police. We are targets for them, and in areas like the dope spots of NJ, chicago, Philly, new york, detroit, and alllll the many hoods and ghettos across the country where people go everyday to cop their shit, you are always at risk of runnin into a shady cop who will kick your ass.

It aint like "Good" drug users would never have the chance of gettin beat up by the cops, but only the "criminal" ones would. Drug users ARE criminals....so I think this fits fair n square :)

I have had a couple personal confrontations with cops, but for many different reasons, none of which included me doing anything wrong or had anything to do with my perennial drug use. There was a local housing protest (that wasn't personal to me though, they just steamkettled the lot of us). Another time I was recording some cops yelling at two people, that wasn't physical, they just didn't like that and there was no one around so they just stole my phone.

One time I happened to be in DC around July 4th. As political groups are wont to do, there were many organizations trying to use the day as a symbol and hold demonstrations on DC on that day. I wasn't among them, I was just in DC. I was heading down to the festivities and decided to pass through lafayette square, one of the parks in front of the white house. On the sidewalk across the street from the white house lawn, there was a couple protest groups, not causing any harm just sitting around with their signs, and for some reason mid-day a truck load of riot-geared cops came in to yell at, disperse, and fuck around with all the protesters until they all ran away. It was really weird. There was a level of ferocity on display, towards what were obviously harmless folk who were just stationed there, which was an unusual level even for DC cops.

I had started a conversation with this one guy from some feed-the-hungry organization that called itself "food not bombs" and suddenly this 6 foot 3 jackboot cop just comes up with his friend and starts screaming at us about how any permits we had weren't valid for today and they had to move this and that, and nothing could be touching the sidewalk and they had to move NOW.

So the guys from this group started moving their table, and the cop starts flipping out more, like he wanted an excuse to wail on someone, as if they weren't moving at all (I guess not moving fast enough?) and I basically say something to the extent of "alright, they're going, so you can chill out." No swearing, totally neutral body-language.

Before I knew it I was on the pavement. God bless America and our thin blue line.

Three Cheers for Lacey_K!

I think some people are just biased in favor of the police. Its easy to draw parallels between drug culture and excessive force by law enforcement. Its totally relevant.

Has anyone watched the video footage from Seattle 99 or the NAFTA protests in Florida? The police have gotten brutal.

Its hard for me to even count the number of times that I have seen the police get away with assaulting people, not even in self defense.
